The Brooklyn Historical Society is hosting a “Nappy Roots: History of Black Hair” panel discussion on the tousled history, politics and culture of Black hair in America. Brush up on the relationship between hair and African American culture with Lori L. Tharps and Ayana Byrd, co-authors of Hair Story: Untangling the Roots of Black Hair in America, and Noliwe Rooks, author of Hair Raising: Beauty, Culture and African American WomenDana Oliver, beauty editor at Yahoo Lifestyle, will moderate the discussion.
