A curated showcase of African designers is set to rule the runway during New York Fashion Week next month as part of the EMERGE! A Fashion Runway Show. Now in its seventh year, Emerge! has teamed with Wearable Art Collective to curate the special presentation featuring both men’s and women’s wear, traditional African designs, jewelry, and hand-crafted shoes.
Founded by D. Williams Public Relations Group, Emerge! has become one of the top platforms for emerging designers to showcase their work during New York Fashion Week to a room full of retail buyers, fashion influencers, celebrities, top fashion editors and tastemakers. Hundreds of designer submissions are reviewed by an elite designer committee, which selects some of the top designers from around the world.
The Wearable Art Collective’s mission is to promote, strengthen, empower African designers & artisans. It strives to serve as good global citizens and provide a foundation to empower African designers.
This year’s featured designers include VanVorsh, Clarence Clottey, Orla Couture, Senyo Foli, Ohene Couture, Yetroselane Couture, Nyonuvi, Royal Dennis, Jesu Segun, Muggs Jewellery, Redeemer Jewellry, Lumiere, and Catou Designs.
In addition, Emerge! will present the Fashion Innovator Award to New York Fashion Week creator, Fern Mallis, in recognition of her worldwide influence and innovation in fashion. Past honorees have included Andre’ Leon Talley, Vogue contributing editor; Constance C.R. White, former ESSENCE Editor-in-Chief; Mikki Taylor, fashion icon; and legendary model Patricia Cleveland.
