When it comes to breaking ground in beauty, celeb hairstylist Tippi Shorter has always been at the top of her game. She has been behind the manes of such celebs as Yara Shahidi, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, and Jennifer Hudson; made history as the first Black spokesperson for Pantene, and served as Aveda’s first-ever global artistic director for textured hair. She currently serves as a global artistic director for Mizani/L’Oreal.
Now, Tippi is bringing together a who’s who list of nine Back hairstylists to host the first-ever Texture Beauty Jam aimed at showcasing the art, technique and narrative of natural hairstyling. Created in partnership with hairstyling app Swivel, the event will also provide an educational focus for professional hairstylists seeking to elevate approaches and innovations involving natural hair.
“Education is everything. It’s very important to have continuing elevated education,” says Tippi of the inaugural event. “There just isn’t enough offered that people feel they don’t already know.”
She notes that each of the featured stylists — Nai’vasha, Tym Wallace, Monaè Everett, Rachel Redd, Anthony Dickey, Dereq C, Jamal Edmonds, and Leysa Carillo – are leading, creating and narrating the visuals for textured hair in magazines, on television, in stores, and on the red carpet. They are celebrity stylists, NAHA winners, artistic directors, and brand ambassadors.
“The stage will host over $12,000 worth of education in one night!” she says of the inclusive event. “I’m so honored to have them — there wasn’t any hesitation when I reached out to each of them.”
Brands sponsors include Mizani, Redken, ShearShare, Hairrules, CoccoPro, DpHue, and GammaPiu and will feature product and tool giveaways along with swag bag.
