More and more brands are taking note of the power of the Black dollar — especially when it comes to beauty — and no longer just relying on the loyalty of their users.

The latest brand to hone in those marketing efforts is the maker of Ampro Pro Styl gel. Most of us are familiar with the top-selling brown protein styling gel — either having used it ourselves, or have an aunty or cousin who swears by it for their baby hairs and molded down ‘dos.
Ampro Industries just launched the new #UnapologeticallyBlack campaign paying homage to the pop-culture of the ’70s and ’80s while playing on the dark coloring for which its regular and super hold gels have come to be known.
“Our protein styling gels help consumers achieve beautiful, long lasting protective styles – most widely known for creating crisp finger waves, slick ponytails, festive ‘baby hair’ – we want to embrace all of those styles and stylists, unapologetically,” said Camille Wright, vice president of marketing and communications.

In addition to its signature regular and super hold “brown gels” designed for textured hair, the brand expanded its line in 2012 to include a line of oil-infused — argan, olive, coconut and aloe — gels, wax and curl enhancers.
