Yara Shahidi consistently gives us life on the red carpet (and pretty much wherever else she goes), with her poppin’ curls and killer style. Her Primetime Emmys red carpet look on Monday was no exception, as she posed it up in an ultra femme Gucci gown with crystal embellishments and a floral accent paired with a deep eyes and nude face beat by Emily Cheng.

Her crowing piece, of course, was her gorgeous top knot crafted by go-to stylist Nai’Vasha Johnson. While many of us think top knots mean slicked down edges, we love how she played up Yara’s textured tresses.

“My inspiration was the delicate, romantic style of Yara’s gown,” shared Nai’Vasha. “I wanted to keep Yara’s natural curl while playing up the shape of her hair to accentuate the details of her dress.”

To get the look, she revived Yara’s curls by saturating her hair with Kenra Platinum Luxe One Leave-In ($25) and brushing through. Next, Nai’Vasha gathered Yara’s hair into a ponytail and secured with a tie.

She then applied a palm full of Kenra Curl Glaze Mousse 13 ($17) around the base of the hair “to promote hair’s natural texture, while also minimizing flyaways.”

For the top knot, she first brushed on a small amount of Kenra Platinum Hydro Gel 13 ($22) to define the curls and wrap hair into a knot, securing with bobby pins. Once complete, she finished with Kenra Platinum Revive Oil ($28) and Kenra Platinum Finishing Spray 26.
