Serayah McNeill is a triple-threat talent who has kept us riveted as Tiana Brown on the hit show Empire. The actress/singer/dancer is a shining example of what a girl with a dream can achieve with hard work and dedication.
Over the summer, the former high school basketball player and California-bred beauty released visuals to her new single “So Good,” and is all set to star on the upcoming season of Empire.
On top of taking the industry by storm with her debut EP Addicted, Serayah is also making major beauty moves. She’s often the go-to girl for major beauty and fashion brands, serving as the face for CoverGirl and Madonna’s Material Girl clothing line.
Hype Hair chatted it up with Serayah for this month’s cover story about her new music, along with all her hair must-haves and beauty tips!
Hype Hair: Congratulations on your success on multiple fronts! Tell us about your music and how Addicted together.
Serayah McNeill: Thank you! I had been recording for two years and just expressed everything I was going through with friends, relationships, etc.I love walking into the studio and creating from scratch. I had the pleasure of working with a great team—including Jabari Rayford, Shaan Mehta, Obama Bam and 5thofHen, who all worked on the project with me!
HH: What can fans look forward with your new project?
SM: I’m releasing plenty of singles for now, giving my fans more content. My album, I don’t want to rush—it will come!
HH: How was your experience with Empire this time around?
SM: It was amazing. My character had a much bigger story line than ever. It was really fun being in all the drama. People didn’t really like Tiana this season. It’s so funny to me how invested people are. I love it.
HH: What do you enjoy most about playing the character?
SM: She’s so confident and doesn’t care what people think. She’s a go-getter and very focused, which I think we have in common. Not to mention, she gets to wear all the really unique fashion pieces straight from the runway!
HH: What are some of your most memorable behind- the-scenes moment?
SM: My funniest moments are performing and rehearsing. I really love Jamaica, our amazing choreographer.
HH: What else do you have in the mix in the acting arena?
SM: Some really cool indie films are coming up!
