While NYFW presentations, as of late, have been more inclusive of spotlighting natural textures, Texture On The Runway called on stylists to level up on the celebration. “It’s a different world,” said NaturallyCurly founder, Michelle Breyer. “I think people are really seeing the incredible power and the beauty and also the versatility, that [natural hair] can be so many different things.”

Participating brands included SheaMoisture, Creme of Nature, Carol’s Daughter, Cantu, Mielle Organics, Camille Rose Naturals and The Mane Choice. Sally Beauty sponsored the event and was noted as the first national retailer to carry many of the brands, including Mielle Organics. Diane Bailey, Pekela Riley and Maria Antoinette were just a few of the lead stylists who got into the hair mix to give us all sorts of textured hair inspo. The event also celebrated NaturallyCurly’s 20th anniversary, featuring a sultry performance by Love &  Hip Hop reality star and singer Amara La Negra. “Never feel as if you should change who you are or the way you look to please society’s standards of beauty,” Amara told the crowd. “You are beautiful jut the way that you are. Kinky hair, straight hair, curly hair — whatever it is… If you have some hair extensions, some hair piece or you got some weave or you got your wig on, you are still beautiful!”
