Less than a year after going viral from a quick homecoming pic at Howard University, Anok Yai went from being a biochemistry major to making fashion history. Just weeks after being discovered via Instagram, she signed to a major modeling contract, hit the runways and soon became the first Sudanese (and second Black) model to ever open a Prada show.
Now, the 20-year-old is posing it up as the the new face of Estée Lauder, alongside the likes of Misty Copeland and Joan Smalls. “It’s a dream come true,” said Anok during her first campaign shoot.
She will front the beauty giant’s Double Wear foundation line which has been expanded to include a total of 56 shades.
“It makes me happy that Estée Lauder makes it a point to address all women of all shades,” she said. “In the past I could never find the right shade. Walking into an average store, it would be so many lighter shades, and then maybe like three options for Black women. But Black is a very broad spectrum!
“Just finding one would be great, but Estée Lauder actually has two options that can work for me. That’s amazing.”
