The ever-snatched funnywoman Niecy Nash is nailing the small screen with her hit dramedy Claws. The series just got picked up for its third season after ranking among the top five cable dramas this year. The second season premiere’s viewership was up 38% from last year’s series debut and, according to TNT, it has the largest year-over-year growth among all returning cable dramas.

The gritty, yet wickedly funny series follows Niecy as Desna, owner of Nail Artisan of Manatee County salon turned money launderer in cahoots with the Russian mafia. She also plays the ultimate den mother to her team of manicurists, played by Karrueche Tran, Carrie Preston, Jenn Lyon and Judy Reyes, who’s own sketchy lives involve a lot more than silk wraps and pedicures.
“[We’re] playing these women who are very forward and aggressive sexually,” she said in a recent NPR interview. “They are unapologetic in their behavior and their womanness. I mean it’s … girl power at its finest, you know. All seeking to claw their way out from underneath some or all of these men … in our underworld.”
We’re loving Niecy Nash in this starring role and that she’s finally getting to live her dream of being “Black, fabulous, and on TV.”
Claws is executive-produced by Rashida Jones, Will McCormack, Janine Sherman Barrois and Eliot Laurence. It airs Sundays, 8pm EST on TNT.
