NaturallyCurly.com has found gold in its Texture On The Runway series. Its New York fashion week show has brought out the best of brands, beauty and stylists celebrating all of our natural kinks and curls. So, we were too thrilled last week to check out the the showcase’s first Atlanta event hosted at Terminus 330.
Hosted by NaturallyCurly.com founder and The Curl Revolution author Michelle Breyer and model Nikia Phoenix, attendees were treated to looks crafted by celeb stylist and Smooth ‘N Shine spokesperson Larry Sims and his style team. The event also unveiled Smooth ‘N Shine’s brand new look and product lineups geared toward both curly and straight tresses.
“It was a wonderful opportunity to partner with Smooth ’N Shine,” Michelle told Hype Hair about the showcase. “There are a lot of people who don’t live in New York and who want to experience something like this. And, Atlanta has such an amazing natural hair community that it seemed like a perfect place and it really has already exceeded my expectations.”
Six models stomped the runway in in a variety of curly fros, pixies, braids and updos while draped in fashions from designer Marrisa Wilson and rocking beauty beats by celeb stylist Mimi Johnson.
After the presentation, celeb stylist Nikki Nelms and Yeluchi co-founder Antonia Opiah joined Michelle, Larry and Nikia for a panel discussion on trends and the changing conversations around natural hair and beauty.
Michelle noted these conversations have changed tremendously since NaturallyCurly.com first launched.
“It’s a different world,” she said before the event. “People are really seeing the incredible power and the beauty and the versatility of hair. That it can be so many things.”
