Get The Look: All The Deets Behind Kerry Washington’s Textured Ponytail

Kerry Washington has been known for raising the bar on textured slay – from her own crop of kinky curly tresses to blow out extensions. Case in point: her voluminous pony at the 49th NAACP Image Awards.

The beauty stunned on the red carpet with her loosely pulled back pony extending into a lioness’ mane of textured tresses styled up by Takisha Sturdivant-Drew. We caught up with Brooklyn-based stylist to get all the inspiration and deets behind Kerry’s latest hair masterpiece.

“This long hair ponytail is all about texture.” shared Takisha. “My inspiration for Kerry’s voluminous textured ponytail was her Michael Kors dress.” She said the floor grazing satin dress was pretty, yet simple enough for “that extra volume hanging down her back.”

Takisha also walked us through how to recreate the look at home. After washing and prepping her hair, she gather Kerry’s blown out hair into a loose ponytail. For length and volume, she wrapped in pinned in kinky curly extensions from her TSD Extensions hair line. Once secured, Takisha brushed the for even more volume and texture.

Afraid your blow-out may get too big? No worries! Takisha told Hype Hair that “It’s all about the products you add to the hair as well as the quality of hair you use.” For Kerry’s look, she used Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Hair Mask on her damp hair, blow drying on medium heat with a round brush. “I also went with great quality hair and flat ironed some pieces on the hair on a high temperature to take some of the texture away, & most of all calm the hair down.
