Grace Byers is a force to be reckoned with on Fox’s hit show Empire as the character “Boo Boo Kitty”, but in real life the actress is quite the opposite. Revealing she was bullied as child coming from a deaf household, it took her years to overcome and grow past the taunting.

Now, she’s penned a message of empowerment and self love to her eight-year-old self in the form of a new bookI Am Enough. Grace told PEOPLE she was inspired to write the book after being asked “‘If you had a message for your eight-year old self, what would it be?'”. She responded, “I really think that I would tell her that she’s enough.”
The picture book’s cover art features a beautiful brown girl with a crown of textured tresses illustrated by artist Ketura A. Bobo and is called a “lyrical ode to loving who you are.”
“I never considered myself a writer but, like all of us, I had something to say,” wrote the Caymanian beauty on an Instagram post announcing the release. “In light of this, I feel so many things; vulnerability, gratitude, humility, thrill, excitement, purpose. I hold in my hand the words I would have said to my 8-year-old self. Now, I can’t wait to share them with children all over the world and with you.”
This time, two years ago, this was just a spark – a flicker – a flame of an idea. Now as I see this book illuminated before my eyes, I'm in complete awe of its blaze. Please allow me to humbly introduce you to; 'I Am Enough'. I never considered myself a writer but, like all of us, I had something to say. Thank you to @balzerandbray/@harperchildrens for giving me the forum to share the colors of my heart. Thank you to @keturahariel who couldn't have painted the vision I desired more perfectly and powerfully – you are superiorly talented. Thank you to my circle – both personal and professional – for being apart of this process with me, every step of the way – especially my Mama + my Sissy @caymancake. In light of this, I feel so many things; vulnerability, gratitude, humility, thrill, excitement, purpose. I hold in my hand the words I would have said to my 8-year-old self. Now, I can't wait to share them with children all over the world and with you. Releasing March 6, 2018. #IAmEnough #GodIsGood
The new book is set to hit bookshelves in March 2018.
