Kerry Washington is once again slaying our lives with her textured tresses. The Scandal actress blew our minds the last time we saw her rock a crown of curls last fall on the 2016 Emmys red carpet. Now, the beauty is serving up a another round of curl envy with an edgy au naturale look that is all hers.

She was spotted Sunday afternoon at Jennifer Klein’s 19th Annual Day of Indulgence Party in Brentwood, Calif. rocking a 70’s chic look featuring her new statement-making ‘do, belted denim Tory Burch dress and Prada platforms. After gathering our bearings from all of her fabulousness, we reached out to her stylist Takisha Sturdivant-Drew to get all the details behind her glorious ‘fro.

Takisha revealed that she really just wanted to change Kerry’s normally sleek look. “Basically, I’ve had her straight for  so long, so I said, let’s just wear your own natural texture. Let’s do something different and wear your own hair. But let’s pick it out and make it more fun.”

If you are wondering whether this is all Kerry’s hair, it is!  “I didn’t put any of my TSD hair extensions in this one,” said Takisha. “She’s always been natural. This is her hair. I just expanded it.”

To capture the volume of this throwback look at home, Takisha recommends grabbing your favorite conditioner and setting your dryer on low.  “I had Kerry leave a bit of conditioner in her hair — she uses the Deep Hair Recovery Mask from Neutrogena ($5.99). Then, I took my Dyson blow dryer with a wide tooth detangling comb and lifted it at the roots some and just left the texture at the end.”

To keep the curls from falling flat, she used a cool setting. “That’s what gives you the volume, way more texture,” said Takisha. “If you use a hot setting, it’s going to make the hair even more straight. When you use the cool setting, you can still see the defined curl in her hair.”
