Who knew pajamas and vintage curls could shut down a red carpet? Zendaya Coleman, obv. The Spider-Man actress served a wondrous mix of glam and sleepover vibes at the 2017 Teen Choice Awards. Before taking home the award for Choice Summer Movie Actress, she posed it up in a shimmering PJ look from Ashish Fall 2017 menswear collection featuring multicolor stripes and sequins paired with strappy yellow heels. The look was leveled up with a crown of crush-worthy bedhead curls crafted by stylist Tym Wallace

We caught up with Tym to get all the deets behind the look. “I channeled my favorite era, the ‘70s, and drew inspiration from the most glamourous icons of that time,” he said. “The vintage look Zendaya is wearing tonight is the perfect play on bouncy curls and shaggy layers.”

He also shared tips for recreating the look at home – including starting with cleansed and moisturized tresses (try Dove Intensive Repair Shampoo and Conditioner).  He let her hair completely air dry and added hair extensions from Indique to give her hair even more body. Once dry, he parted large one-inch sections of hair and wrapped around a 1/2″ curling. “To keep the curls bouncy, it’s crucial to curl each section in alternating directions.”

After letting her hair cool and set, he gently brushed out her curls for added volume and swag. He also revealed the secret to maintaining the bedhead look without looking like you actually just getting out of bed.  “To seal the look and keep her hair refreshed throughout the night,” Tym said, “I sprayed her roots with Dove Unscented Dry Shampoo, followed by Dove Style+Care Extra Hold Hairspray to tame unwanted frizz and flyaways.”
