Hype Hair happened to witness some of that hair magic at Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey Neighborhood Flavor event where she wowed in a ‘90s-inspired bantu knot ‘do. We caught up with Jillian and her stylist Ro Morgan to get intel on the multi-textured look which she credited to the other half of her electro-soul duo.

“The inspiration was Lucas’ Killa Cam season t-shirt,” said Jillian. “I didn’t know what I was wearing, so I just took the colors from his shirt and went for a ‘90s Spice Girls kind of of vibe.”

Her hair also got a dose of ‘90s swag with Ro’s half-up, half-down look. “I’ve never done the knots, this is my first time,” Jillian shared.

Ro said the look was a modern take on Scary Spice. “At first, we were going to do all bantu knots, but we also wanted her to be able to move her hair and swing. So, I said let’s combine the best of both worlds and have some bantu knots and some big Lion Babe curls.”

We also got intel on the products he used.

For her curls, Ro grabbed his R&Co Texture and Shine Spray. “It’s a little bit like dry shampoo, but not as drying. I love the effect — it gives the hair instant texture and absorbs all the extra oil and gives you that extra texture, bounce and separation that you need.”

It was all about edge control for the knots. “One of my favorite brands is Design Essentials and that have a Coconut and Monoi Moisturizing Edge Control that I used that to slick up the bantus knots.”

The result was summer perfection! Are you feeling the singer’s hair as much as we are?
