Here’s How To Recreate Kerry Washington’s Voluminous Emmys Hair

Get The Look

Start with clean, well-conditioned hair.
Takisha shampooed and conditioned her hair with Neutrogena Anti Residue Shampoo and Neutrogena Triple Moisture Deep Recovery Mask. “Kerry actually introduced me to the conditioner,” she said. “It is an intensive moisture treatment which restores shine and leaves the hair soft and lustrous” without the frizz.

Blow dry hair with medium heat.
This leaves the texture in the hair and helps to “add volume and make the hair swell,” said Takisha.

Add clip-ins.
To style, Takisha parted Kerry’s hair down the middle to keep her face open. She then clipped in approximately 20 wefts of her TSD Hair Extensions in deep wave for its natural wave pattern, leaving Kerry’s hair out in between.  “Kerry’s hair is all natural, I just wanted to give her added length and volume.”

Blend and brush.
To finish off the look, she used a small wand to curl and blend the hair seamlessly. Takisha then strategically brushed out sections of the clip-ins with a paddle brush and lift comb to achieve a balance between full-blown afro and defined texture.

“If you look at the pictures, you’ll see some of it I brushed out and some of it, I left the natural wave. I brushed some out because I wanted it, of course, even bigger.”

Finish – or nah.
Takisha notes that she didn’t use any hairspray or sheen as a finisher. “I didn’t put anything because the way her hair is and the way the extensions were, it just blended so well. If it was shined with spray or something, it would change the look, it would look greasy and you’d be able to see the difference. I didn’t want anything weighing [the hair] down.”
