For its August 2015 cover, Teen Vogue has named the three new faces of fashion you need to know: Aya Jones, Lineisy Montero and Imaan Hammam, and they are all of African descent! Imagine that. Not counting celebrities, such as Zendaya, the Condé Nast magazine has not had a model of color on their cover since Jourdan Dunn and Chanel Iman graced their pages way back in 2009. Six years later Hammam, Montero and Jones who are 18-, 19- and 20-years-old, respectively, are breaking barriers in an industry whose idea of beauty is often one-sided.
These girls may be relatively new to the scene, but their modeling resumes speaks volume. Hammam landed a Givenchy campaign earlier this year, and modeled in top fashion week shows such as Ralph Lauren and Hermes. She told Teen Vogue, “Sometimes people call me Middle Eastern, and I’m like, ‘No, I’m black.’ I am proud of my culture, proud of who made me, proud to be here.”
Jones is French-Ivorian and has been featured in a Prada and Marc Jacobs campaigns and strutted in over 45 runway shows including Valentino and Alexander McQueen.
And, talk about a big break, 19-year-old Montero started her career by modeling in a Prada runway show followed by Dior and Balenciga, just to name a few. She and the other
