Raven-Symone on Hair: I Have an Interesting Grade

raven-symoneYou have to be living under an Amish rock to be unaware of the ruckus Raven-Symone’s recent commentary caused. Sitting down with Oprah Winfrey for her Where Are They Now show exposed the disconnect the child star has with her bloodline. No shade to be thrown her way—she’s received enough via social media—we just want to try and understand her quotes being that we embrace and praise all types of hair textures.

After telling Oprah that she’s “tired of being labeled” and she’s “not an African-American. I’m an American,” she took it one step further with her tresses.

“I have a nice, interesting grade of hair,” she said. “I connect with Caucasian. I connect with Asian. I connect with black. … I connect with each culture. … Aren’t we all (a melting pot)? Isn’t that what America’s supposed to be?”

Let’s just say we liked her much better when she was exchanging cute one liners between Bill Cosby.
