To raise awareness and money for Lou Gehrig’s disease or ALS, celebrities are participating in the #IceBucketChallenge.
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) affects a person’s muscle strength and coordination. The condition abruptly terminates you ability to do basic tasks like walking and even swallowing. It’s said to affect more up-in-age adults but there are a few cases of young adults being diagnosed with it. One case is the person who inspired this challenge, 29-year-old former college baseball player and ALS sufferer, Pete Frates.
So far the challenge has raised over $22 million.
The #IceBucketChallenge is a dare via social networks. When dared, you can either get drenched in ice water and nominate three others to join, or donate to the ALS charity of your choice.The celebrities that are being provoked are donating and still partaking in this refreshing dip of cold water. And the women are sacrificing their hair to join.
