The Black-owned brand’s entire lineup works great on textured hair, including those in transition and the tightest of kinks and curls. This new offering is no exception, promising to help you serve up your best wash-n-go, twist-out, or braid-out without flaking or crunching.

The new Big Poppa Curl Defining Gel retails for $12.99 and is available at The Doux. Press play below to watch founder Maya Smith put it to work.

HOME- the quarantine edition 😜. Crib demos are gonna have to doux, since I don't plan on going back to the salon for a while 😷. β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € Quick iphone video using BIG POPPA Defining Gel on my baby. I plan to do a live demo in the near future, but until then: β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € β€’ I'm not into hair typing, but if I were, I'd say he certainly is "type 4." Keep in mind that 4c-ish hair looks completely different when it's wet and well-hydrated (so chill in the comments). I forgot to get a shot of his hair before it was washed and hydrated, but in its raw state, his hair is medium density and his curls are super-tiny, and not immediately visible to the naked eye. β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € β€’ I applied BIG POPPA only to very wet hair. No leave-in. It already has lots of slip and distributes easily. β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € β€’ I kind of raked and smoothed it through- no real strategy on this application method other than to coat his hair with the gel and let it do its own thing. β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € β€’ Notice that I use a liberal amount. Don't be scared: as long as BIG POPPA is being used alone, you can apply quite a bit for juicy curls without flaking or crunch. (If you're getting frizz, it could be because you're using too little.) β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € β€’ Hooded dryer. The beauty-supply joints work just fine! You can also diffuse. I don't recommend air drying with BP, because the point is to suspend the hair in its stretched state. Air drying with this product will allow the curls to shrink a little. β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € β€’ It dries really shiny, juicy, and not crunchy. The whole process (not including the shampoo) took about 15-20 minutes using the D-TAIL smoothing comb (thedoux.com), which kept me from struggling with knots at the ends (he needs a trim). β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € BACK IN STOCK SOON – Join our mailing list to be notified when.
