In the year 2020, we would think, by now, that all hairstylists and makeup artists would be able to style more than one kind of hair texture or beat more than one skin tone. But, those of us with melanated skin or hair with any kind of kink know that is not the case.
Support Creative is stepping up to the plate to help right that wrong. The nonprofit recently announced a BIPOC Beauty School Marathon to educate beauty professionals on how to slay the diverse range of skin tones and hair textures.
The virtual marathon kicks off next week, featuring 20 of the industry’s top pros each teaching a masterclass on underrepresented topics as “Texture On Set,” “Nude Makeup For Women Of Color,” Lace Front Wig Application,” and “Shaping the Eyes.”
Support Creative Co-Founder and celeb hairstylist Michale Dueñas will moderate the five-day Livestream, featuring such celebrity hairstylists as Larry Sims (Gabrielle Union), Kendall Dorsey (Solange), and Tym Wallace (Taraji P. Henson), and beauty heavyweights as Danessa Myricks and Michela Wariebi (Beyoncé).
The BIPOC Beauty School Marathon marks the organization’s second Beauty Together series event. It will take place from August 10 to 14, with four classes each day. Each 60- to 120-minute class will be filmed live and costs a $20+ donation per class. There are also All-Access Passes starting at $200 for all hair classes and $220 for makeup classes.
