Megan Thee Stallion put on a whole production for her BET Awards performance Sunday (June 28) night. Forget a basic in-studio medley. After taking home the BET Award for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist, the “Savage” rapper took us on a post-apocalyptic desert trip.

She and her masked hot girls rode out in ATVs before twerking it up on different landscapes. For her look, Megan rocked a barely-there two-piece accented with feathers on the shoulder and blown-out tresses crafted by go-to hairstylist Kellon Deryck.

“The edginess of the performance called for a more chic, sleek look,” Kellon tells Hype Hair. We also got deets on how he created the blown-out look using a curly unit for added texture.

For starters, he prepped both the unit and Megan’s natural tresses. “I had to make sure her natural hair stayed hydrated under her hair unit,” he shares.

He used Dove’s new Amplified Textures line, including the Hydrating Cleanse Shampoo ($6.99), Super Slip Detangling Conditioner ($6.99), and Moisture Spa Recovery Mask ($6.99).

The key to hydration, he said, is to let the mask sit for 15 minutes in a plastic processing/conditioning cap.

“It left the hair light as a feather and full of texture,” he shares.

After blowing out and braiding Megan’s hair down, he blew out and flat-ironed the curly unit to give him the windswept look. He finished off by rubbing a few dollops of Dove Style + Care Volume & Fullness Mousse ($4.99) through the strands for a “tousled, textured bedhead vibe.”
