Rihanna is once again making fashion history — this time for rocking a Black haircare staple on the cover of British Vogue. The queen of breaking fashion barriers is now the first-ever cover star to rock a durag for the glossy.
She stars in two covers for the May issue, serving a nude beat with the dark, double-stitched tied to the side and the back flap out.
“The tainted fabric has been reclaimed as a symbol of black beauty, a signifier of style worn on the streets, the catwalk, the red carpet…and now the cover of Vogue,” says Funmi Fetto of the fashion choice.
This isn’t the first time Rihanna has brought haircare holy grails to the forefront. She rocked a crystal-embellished durag at the 2014 CFDA awards and a whole doobie for the 2013 American Music Awards.
Inside, she also rocks braided, textured puffs styled by her go-to stylist Yusef and braider Naphia while talking new music and her Instagram-breaking beauty and fashion enterprises.
