Ciara is serving up retro hair goals in an epic new cover shoot for Flaunt. Inspired by her latest “Melanin” single, the beauty poses it up in some half a dozen different hair looks channeling ’70’s, ’80s and ’90s looks with a modern twist — including 50″ twists, ponytail bubbles, and an epic afro stacked with this year’s must-have accessories trend.
All the looks were created by her go-to hairstylist Cesar DeLeon Ramirez. “There’s no one like César in the hair world, in this day and time,” CiCi says in a behind-the-scenes video. “He has incredible range. He can do any style you can think of.”
The street-style shoot also featured makeup magic by her go-to makeup artist Yolonda Fredrick who painted on serious lash and brow drama, along with fashion styling by Danasia Sutton, and nail art by Nails By Yoko.
Inside, she talks music, motherhood, and the beauty of Black hair.
“Hairstyles have always been an extension of my creative process as a music artist and in fashion,” says Ciara on the power of natural hair. “I have been experimenting with my hair for as long as I can remember. Each time I wear my hair in an afro it comes with an inherent sense of identity and pride. You really stand out in a room, it’s like wearing a crown.”
