Her win marks the first time in history that Miss Universe, Miss USA, Miss Teen USA, and Miss America are all Black women. Yes, all four of them. Add to that, the 26-year-old advocate for natural beauty rocked a super short kinky tapered afro –a la Grace Jones. We are loving watching this growing list of Black women changing the beauty pageant game with their natural kinks and curls over the past few years — including Miss USA Cheslie Kryst.

“May every little girl who witnessed this moment forever believe in the power of her dreams and may they see their faces reflected in mine,” said Zozibini after the win.

Prior to the competition, she also shared her goals of impacting the perception of Black beauty after being crowned Miss South Africa.

“Society has previously been programmed in such a way that there’s nothing beautiful about being Black,” she wrote. Her hope was to “shatter whatever misconception and stereotypes people have of beauty.”

Also of note, she rocked a series of gowns celebrating her heritage by South African designer Biji – La Maison de Couture, including a deep v-neck gown with Xhosa-inspired patterned detailing inside her sequinned cape.

We are here for all of this. Congrats, sis!
