Beauty Boss Ukonwa Ojo continues to take her marketing prowess to new heights with her new role at MAC Cosmetics. The award-winning strategist has just been named the makeup powerhouse’s senior vice president of global marketing.
Ukonwa brings more than 20 years’ experience in global brand strategies and development. Prior to this newly created role, she served as chief marketing officer for Coty overseeing its consumer beauty portfolio, including COVERGIRL, Rimmel and Sally Hansen.
Now she looks forward to helping strengthen MAC’s brand positioning and further increase its global presence, as well as overseeing product development and marketing.
She shared that she has always appreciated MAC Cosmetics’ marketing strategies.
“Among many reasons, MAC chose to serve me and many others when most beauty brands thought we weren’t worth investing in,” Ukonwa shared in an IG post. “So imagine how awesome it is 16 years later to be named the Global Chief Marketing Officer and Senior Vice President” for the beauty brand.
Ukonwa has also racked up major awards during her work journey, including Business Insider’s list of 25 Most Innovative CMOs, World Federation of Advertisers’ Global Marketer of the Year, WWD Brand Builder of the Year, Ebony Magazine Power 100, Financial Times Top 100 List of Minority Executives for three consecutive years, and Fast Company’s Top 100 list of Most Creative People in Business among others.
“Ukonwa is a true brand builder who imbues a fast-moving entrepreneurial spirit and truly embodies the brands that she works on,” said Philippe Pinatel, MAC Cosmetics Senior Vice President/General Manager, in a recent statement. “She looks at brands holistically from the viewpoint of everyone, not just one singular consumer, which is crucial to the DNA of MAC and I am excited for her to lead our marketing teams in this consumer-centric approach.”
