LaQuan Smith has become a favorite among fashion mavens for his unique ability for bridging the gap between glamour and the provocative aesthetic. So, when it comes to New York Fashion Week, we can always expect the designer to bring it.
On Sunday afternoon (Sept. 8), LaQuan presented his Spring/Summer 2020 Collection in NYC with a full-on “LaQuan Smith Hoedown.”
As always, the energy in the room for a LaQuan Smith presentation is magnetic and the fashions fell right in line! Showcasing a chic mix of leathers, python foils, and snakeskin, the Queens native took Western glam to new heights. Models hit the runway in beaded ensembles, cowboy hats, latex get-ups and sheer pieces that would make any fashionista swoon.
“There’s been a lot of inspiration pulled from motorcades, motorcycles, wrangler and horses, just sort of this fun concept of what Western could be,” LaQuan told Hype Hair. “It’s so on-brand and trendy and I wanted my interpretation to showcase those sensibilities without being gimmicky.”
LaQuan also said it was important for to uplift women with this collection.
“I think that this collection represents the modern woman right now who wants to feel unapologetically sexy,” he shares. And that it does! No one combines fashion and sensuality like LaQuan and he proves it over and over again.
As if we couldn’t stan LaQuan any harder, he came all the way through with a melanin-rich cast of models. With stars like Slick Woods, Cindy Bruna, Trevor Jackson, Halima Aden and Winnie Harlow ripping the runway, inclusivity was not an issue during this fabulous presentation.
