Missy Elliott is back and slaying! The hip-hop/R&B/pop legend (yes, all of it) is set to launch a new project and just gave us our lives in her new cover spread for Marie Claire August 2019.
The out-of-this-world phenom (who seems to be aging backward) poses it up for the cover in orange brocaded Dolce & Gabbana jacket complemented with a Fulani braided crown crafted by Kellon Deryck and a galactic beauty beat by Alexandra Butler.
Ever the style icon, she serves lewk after lewk (styled up by June Ambrose) including a mustard yellow Moncler Pierpaolo Piccioli quilted puff dress that is giving us 1999 “I Can’t Stand The Rain” vibes, as well as a Versace jacket layered with all the gold chains and an all-money print fit.
Even more impressive, hairstylist Kellon revealed that he created all of her hair looks, which also included a box braid updo, those cover cornrows and faux locks, in one day.
After all this slayage, Missy gave an intimate interview on her spirituality, speaking her success into existence and being true to your craft.
On celebrating Black girl magic:
I am a champion for brown, dark women. If we knew how special we were, would be unstoppable.
On encouraging the next generation
I do want to make the generation behind feel like, don’t be afraid, because we are in a time where so many people can be artists. Now you can just post up, and if it gets to the right person, then it’s just viral. I want to be able to encourage those who don’t go viral….A lot of people out there that have 452 or 100 followers may be talented. I want them to not feel like they have to do what everybody else is doing to gain that attention. Just be you. It’s going to catch hold somewhere.”
