There is nothing basic about Rihanna. Not even a half-up, half-down ponytail. The bad gal pulled up to the BET Awards rocking a burgundy look — the perfect complement to her all-black leather ensemble — that had us rethinking our hair color game.
“For tonight’s look, Rihanna wanted to look very pretty,” shared Rihanna’s longtime stylist Yusef about the “dreamy baby doll” style. “We were working with her beautiful burgundy hair, so I wanted to really feature the bold color and let it speak for itself!”
Yusef also shared deets behind the beauty mogul’s flawless look. To get the look, he started on freshly cleansed and conditioned hair, he applied Suave Professionals for Natural Hair Define & Shine Serum Gel before blow drying the hair on medium heat and speed to get a smooth finish.
Once dry, he parted her hair from ear to ear and then added extensions for added length and fullness. He then curled sections using a large 1 1/8″ curling iron to created added texture.
Once cooled, he used Suave Professionals Firm Control Finishing Hairspray and pulled the top of hair into a ponytail.
“Detailing is key,” he added. To finish off the look, he “backcombed hair and teased out the pony” to get added texture and volume.
