Olympians Cullen Jones & Rowdy Gains Kick Off Make A Splash Tour!

When formal swimming lessons are introduced at a young age, the risk of drowning is reduced by a staggering 88 percent...

The summer spring and summer seasons are definitely the time of year when our kids enjoy spending time at local swimming pools and beaches. But with seventy percent of African American children, 60 percent of Hispanic/Latino children and 40 percent of Caucasian children having little to no swimming abilities, they can definitely but put at risk. The Make a Splash initiative seeks to change these startling statistics through three key efforts: save lives by teaching children the lifesaving skill of learning to swim, raising national awareness of the importance of learning to swim and by bringing together a coalition of aquatic industry partners aligned to end drowning in the U.S.

Throughout the summer of 2013, the Make a Splash Tour, presented by Phillips 66 will host town hall style events in various cities across the country, featuring Olympians Cullen Jones and Rowdy Gaines.

After a near drowning experience at the age of 5, Olympic gold medalist and Make a Splash spokesperson Cullen Jones has gone on to become a dedicated advocate of water safety. "When formal swimming lessons are introduced at a young age, the risk of drowning is reduced by a staggering 88 percent, Jones said. Swimming is a critical skill for children to learn that can determine the difference between life and death in a matter of seconds. I am so proud to participate in the Make a Splash Tour again this year and work with the USA Swimming Foundation and Phillips 66 to educate parents and caregivers about the resources available in their communities.

There are more than 600 Make a Splash partners across the country.
Brothers On The Menu

By Earnest Johnson

By Ernest Johnson

Although the unique problems of black men are not new, they have been habitually discussed without solid suggestions for change -- until now. Psychologist Ernest Johnson, who has been helping black men cope with anger -- including his own -- for more than a decade, offers hope and answers. He shows how anger can be used -- rather than avoided -- to build a life filled with love, self-respect, and peace. Exploring the sources of frustration particular to black men today, Dr. Johnson offers prescriptions for managing anger and coping with stress. Changing thought patterns -- and actions -- begins with learning how to:

Identify camouflaged anger -- rage that may be repressed or diverted into harmful behaviors, such as excessive smoking, alcohol or drug use, poor eating habits, or risky sexual conduct

Build on friendliness, happiness, trust, and compassion to achieve a committed relationship with a black woman

Recognize the real origins of tense, hurt, or helpless feelings -- the first step toward change

Use simple techniques, such as meditation and time-outs, to stop anger before it takes control

Move from anger to problem-solving

Heal the wounds of the past

Contrary to popular belief, the most powerful part of a man is his feelings. Brothers on the Mend shows African-American men how to heal themselves -- and those who love them -- by embracing the feelings that will set them free.

About the Author:
Dr. Ernest H. Johnson, a medical and health psychologist, is the president and CEO of Infinite Choices & Possibilities Inc. (ICPI), which sponsors health seminars and specializes in information about weight management, hypertension, learning problems in children, HIV prevention, and the reversal of aging. Dr. Johnson speaks widely on the subjects of health, anger management, weight loss, and the prevention of HIV. He has given presentations at colleges and universities across the country. Recently, his focus has been to deliver his message about health, particularly the management of anger, obesity, and hypertension, to members of black churches throughout the southeastern United States. He is currently working on a personal empowerment program for men incarcerated for anger and substance abuse problems.

For more great books visit: www.huemanbookstore.com

Former Hype Hair Natural Beauty Model Of The Year Winner Pens An Inspirational New Single!

Pens An Inspirational New Single

We knew there was something very special about the beautiful Tonice Joyce Taylor when we proudly crowned her our Natural Beauty Model of The Year winner back in 2009. She has since gone on to accomplish many more remarkable things in the years since her win. Her modeling career is booming, and she has also recently penned an inspirational new single entitled, I Forgive You.

We reached out to Tonice to ask her what her inspiration was for her new song and here is what she shared:

I basically wrote the song called I Forgive You, featuring Itsyagirl Nicolette, when God told me to take a leap of faith. The song is a part of my testimony coming to Christ. The song is a Christian/Gospel song, but can reach everyone around the world. I wrote this song simply because God said, 'Tonice, this is another outlet for you to save souls.' Once I fell in love with Christ, that became my main goal. I have been saved for two years now and this has been the best time of my life. I just want to share Christ with the whole world, especially the younger generation.

If you follow Tonice on twitter and on instagram @ToniceJTaylor, its evident that she is very serious about her walk with Christ, and often uses her handles as a way of spreading the gospel, posting scripture or just simply sharing a word of encouragement for the day. Inspiring!

Check out Tonices new single, now available on Itunes, at amazon.com and on Google Play.

For more information about Tonice, you can also log onto her official website at www.tonicejoycetaylor.com.
