Preventing dry and brittle hair...

Q:"I am a sister thats serious about cleanliness. I wash my hair every day with a deep cleansing shampoo. Its really dry and brittle now and so much is coming out in my comb. What now?"

A:You are obviously using a product with an intense detergent thats drying your hair out to the point of breakage. Deep cleansing shampoos are used to remove heavy product build up (i.e. gels, hairspray, etc.) that collect on the hair over time. Generally shampooing the hair every 7 to 14 days is frequent enough. You may need to shampoo more often if you exercise regularly, if your scalp itches, or if your hair has lost its shine and luster. Use a conditioning shampoo like Revlons Crme of Nature, Lets Jam Shampoo or Optimum Care Collagen Shampoo. Apply the shampoo to the hair and then add a leave-in conditioner to shield your tresses against the daily trauma caused by the harsh elements and heated styling appliances. Our editors suggest Fantasia IC Hair & Scalp Treatment as a leave-in conditioner.

In your quest to achieve beautiful hair, you may try a variety of styling methods: You may opt to relax it, color it, cut it, roll it, or weave it to achieve it. However you choose to work it, you cant get the best style results without a quality, basic hair-care regimen that ensures your naturally grown hair is healthy. Even if you opt to weave your hair, you should never feel like you must add in hair to achieve a great hairstyle.

You should have the satisfaction of knowing that your real hair is wearable, and more importantly, healthy. Its never too late to have healthy hair! Unless you have a serious medical issue, your hair should grow up to a half-inch every month. The manner in which you maintain your hair as it grows is what determines how healthy it isand how long it gets. Selecting a good hair-care system to maintain your hair is an absolute must. Being consistent in your use of quality moisturizing products is a must. Getting rid of split is also something to consider and protecting your ends is important for maintaining growth.
