Ask The Experts: The Color Factor

Choosing The Right Color For You

Q: Dyeing my hair red or blonde is something Ive always wanted to do. Is there a shade of either color that will look the most natural on me?A: Yes. First, you must determine which color is better for you, red or blond. During the summer, extra exposure to the sun can cause the natural highlights in your hair to become more pronounced. In making your color selection, ask yourself, does my hair have a red or blonde cast in the summer? Try on wigs in hair colors that you like and see how well they work with your complexion. Also, you can discuss your options with your stylist.

Salon Expert Advice: Reducing Hair Breakage

A reader asks about what steps to take for reducing hair breakage...

Q: "What steps can I take at home to reduce hair breakage?"A: "First, talk to your doctor before introducing any vitamins into your diet. That said, hair vitamins could provide your body with important nutrients that can help supply the body with more of what it needs to grow hair. Poor nutrition and lack of the proper vitamins can have adverse effects on hair growth. After doing your routine shampoo and moisturizing conditioning treatment, apply a leave-in hair strengthener such as Infusium 23 Moisturizing Leave-In Treatment. This product is great for dry and unmanageable hair. Infusium 23 Moisturizing Leave-In Treatment instantly repairs and strengthens damaged hair, moisturizes hair from root to tip and detangles wet or dry hair instantly."

Expert Talk: Split Ends

"Its been so long since Ive had a trim, and my ends are pretty bad..."

Theres an ad for a shampoo and conditioner that mends split ends. Its been so long since Ive had a trim, and my ends are pretty bad. I was trying to avoid cutting them because I didnt want to get rid of my length. Do you know of any products out there that really work to repair split ends?Unfortunately, these types of products dont actually repair split ends. In many instances they have ingredients that create a wax film over the ends, appearing to bond the ends. Over time, this wax barrier chips away, and youre left with the same splits. The only way to get rid of split ends is through a good trim. We know you may be comfortable with your length, but healthy hair is more important. Get a trim and with proper hair care, your hair will grow back before you know it. To help the growth process, shampoo once every 1-2 weeks, deep condition after shampoos, keep your ends trimmed, drink lots of water and dont apply heavy greases and products directly to the scalp.
