Hello! I am mixed and I've always had naturally curly hair. In 2008, I started going to a professional hairstylist. Every two weeks, I'd get my hair washed and flat iron. I've notice that my hair will no longer curl like it used to when I wet it. Many of the strands in my hair remain straight and WILL NOT curl. I am so frustrated and I don't know what to do. :-( My cousin suggested that my hair may be suffering from heat damaged and I would need to cut it all off to get my curl pattern back. It's taken me a long time go grow my hair to a length that I love and I DON'T want to cut off all my hair. Any suggestion??? PLEASE HELP!!

Hello! I know that the cold months will be coming to an end soon, but during the winter cold months my scalp gets itchy and my roots are dry and m hair is coming out at the center. I've tried leave-in conditoners that Blue Magic offers and I even combine it with hair grease and water.Everyday I have to put some moisture in my hair twice a day(in the morning and at night before bed. This is just during the winter months,on top of that I'm a chef and I'm in heat all day so all the conditioner i put in my hair is sweated out on to a cloth scarf. what are some of the best products for non-relaxed hair for the winter seasons and some products that are best for the summer season.
Hype Hair
We recommend product lines that are formulated specifically for textured and natural hair types. Our staff has used the As I Am hair care line and love it! You can also try Shea Moisture's brand, and Mixed Chicks products are another brand we love for your hair type. *Hair Tip*: Since you wear a cloth scarf for most of the day on your job, we recommend wrapping your hair with a satin scarf instead of the cloth scarf. Or if you must, wear the satin scarf underneath the cloth scarf. The cloth material is very drying to your hair and may be the cause of your breakage.

Hi, I'm a half black, half mexican chick, who is thinking about growing out her relaxer. I've had a relaxer since I was twelve, bc my hair was naturally wavy. What are some chemicals that I should use while the relaxer grows out and what are the best styles I should wear for growing out my relaxer? I haven't decided yet, because of my hair type not being the norm when people say "going natural" and I'm a little afraid of the process. Please help!
Hype Hair
The process of transitioning can be daunting, but the results will be worth it! Patience is the key, so try not to become too frustrated as you work with the two textures of hair. The good t news is you can still experiment with great looks as you go through this phase. So in the meantime, we recommend wearing protective styles, like ponytails, buns, twists and braids. You can really play around with your hair, so have fun with it!

My hair is falling out like crazy! How much hair loss is normal and any tips to fight the hair fall ? I'm 23 and I do highlight my hair every ten weeks.
Hype Hair
The highlighting can be a problem if you are not taking care of your hair in between processes. If you are doing your highlights yourself, we recommend letting a professional do the highlights. Over processing your hair can cause breakage, so make sure you deep condition regularly to keep your hair strong and healthy,

Hi, I am a 19 year old freshman college student and I absolutely have no clue whats going on with my hair. I am African American and Puerto Rican. When I was younger my hair was naturally crinkly and wavy, but I got a relaxer. Just recently I decided to go back natural in May 2012, but instead of getting all of my hair cut off, I’m letting my relaxer grow out. My hair is constantly frizzy, dry, and poofy. I try many different products on my hair, but none seem to work. I just really want my hair to go back to its natural state. What products do you think are best for my hair?
Hype Hair
Try the Mixed Chicks hair care line, which is great for textured hair types. We recommend their leave-in and deep conditioners.

Kaymee : Posted On: Mar 03, 2013
Hi my is kaymee and I'm dark skin girl with a round face I was wondering what kind hair style would fit me the best also what color lipstick and nail polish?
Hype Hair
Your options are endless when it comes to styles and make-up choices! Never be afraid of experimenting with color. Try some highlights around the frame of the face to bring out that beautiful skin tone. Bob cuts are really hot right now, as are box braids, and of course, the ombre looks that are so popular at the moment. As for lip colors, we like deep berry tones, oranges and reds on darker complexions. Try a light blue color on the nails. We love the fashionable teal color that is so hot right now. Another thing you can do is look up actresses, singers and models that have a similar skin tone as you and see what colors they are choosing for themselves to get some ideas.

I have fine/medium relaxed hair that I am trying to growm past my shoulders. My hair dresser wants me to deep condition my hair once a week adn keep it wrapped. I'm bored with that because I'm use to wearing my half wigs or ponytails but he's concerned that me pulling my hair back into ponytails with gel is breaking the front edges of my hair off. I do zumba at least twice a week and have two daughters to take care of I need a stylish hairstyle that is low maintanence that I can add weave or extensions to.
Hype Hair
Your stylist is absolutely right. That type of styling on a daily basis will wreak havoc on your hair eventually. If you want your hair to grow to the length you want, you will have to make some sacrifices. Protective styles, as your stylist suggests, in the way to go. Weaves can also be protective styles. Ask your stylist about the net cap technique, which is less harsh on your hair.

We love asymmetrical cuts and bob cuts on those with round shaped faces. The curvature of the cuts suit the shape of your face well.

Hello, I have short, relaxed hair with blond streaks in the top. My hair tends to be dry. Can you suggest some good hair care products? I would also like to wear a curly style - sort of the wet look. I can't use a texturizer because of the relaxer so I have been researching the use of flexi rods to create a curly style. The hair on the back of my head curls easily with the use of setting lotion and sitting under a hood dryer. However, the sides don't curl as much and the top is mostly straight. Can you give me some suggestions for making the top and sides appear more curly? What products do you recommend?
Hype Hair
Try setting the hair with small rod curlers for a sassy, curly look. Use a good setting foam or lotion when setting the hair. We like the one from Motions. Use a light sheen spray daily to combat dryness, preferably one that is formulated with Shea Butter. We like the one from the Cantu line.

We suggest seeing a professional hair colorist to correct the problem and to get you to the blonde color that you want. Use our directory to find a stylist in your area. In the meantime, always wait at least 2 weeks before coloring and relaxing the hair.

Greetings! I have a large head of hair that hasn't been straightened in almost two years until recently. I have been wearing super natural hairstyles such as two strand twists. Now that I've decided to wear it straight in the colder month, I can't condition as I have every week. I don't see my hair growing, I actually think I have split ends that are ruining the rest of the shaft. I get a deep condition or protein treatment every time I go to the salon. What can I do to have healthy hair? I wanted to do a "big chop' but people tell me not to and keep growing it longer. I don't care about length, I care about health. When I go to the salon, they don't put anything on my scalp and I get dandruff a week after. What do I do? Is straight hair not for me?

Elnora : Posted On: Nov 12, 2012
Hi, I did one of the worst things possible, I permed and dyed my hair on the same day. My hair isn't falling out severely but, it is severely dry. I just wanted to know what should I do to get my hair back on track to healthy.
Hype Hair
Condition, condition, condition! That is the key. Use products formulated for color treated hair and visit your stylist every two weeks to regularly assess the health of your hair. For future reference, ALWAYS wait two weeks between chemical processes to help prevent hair breakage.

Hi. i've been having problems growing my hair. sometime ago i dyed my hair then permed it some days later which i shouldnt have done cause when i come my hair alot of hair would come out but im not bald lol. ive been taking hair pills to get my hair to grow but now i had my hair done in sew in. how can i get my hair to get undamaged and to grow back long?
Hype Hair
You should never, ever relax your hair only a few days after using permanent hair color. You should wait at least two weeks between chemical processes. Wearing protective styles, such as weaves, is a good way to help give your hair a rest as it grows.

Hi. I want to respond to Tateyana, the young woman who is having difficulty with her hair growing back after having broken off from breaking badly due to a relaxer. Biotin is vitamin that will help with the growth of your nails and hair. Also have tried using castor oil (pure) on your hair and scalp? Also cocnut oil (pure) will help stimulate the scalp. You did not mention whether or not you were still relaxing your hair, but those are just a few suggestions. Also natural style will help your hair to grow helathier and subsequetly quicker.

Tateyana : Posted On: Oct 27, 2012
Hi all my life I been relaxing my hair and wearing bonded weaves which evidently broke my hair completely off so I cut my hair into a short style a couple months ago and my hair still has yet to even manage to grow back not even a little I have very very thick and dry hair and I'm ready to just give up but I feel since I'm only 21 I shouldn't give up yet well do you have any suggestions for me or anything?
Hype Hair
First of all, you should definitely cease from using bonding glue in your hair to apply weaves. Over time, it can damage the hair follicles if is is used too often. Switch to other weaving techniques that are less harsh on your hair. We suggest trying the net cap weave, where the hair is braided, a net is sewn onto the braid and the weave is applied directly to the net. This causes less stress on your hair. In the meantime, continue with a good hair care routine of shampooing and deep conditioning regularly to get your hair back into shape.

my hair is broke in the top, its a bald spot i think it might be from after my relaxer but it's the only area that does that, i use gentle treatment for grey hair. then i haven't had any hair in the kitchen area of my head for years what can i use to grow it out so i can wear a ponytail or wear it up. it's embrassing with no kitchen area. the only time i have any hair back there is when i cut it all off and use a texturizer that is the only thing that grow my hair other than a jerri curl, when my hair starts to break off then that's when i cut it all off and put a curl or texturizer in, then grow it out and put my relaxer in.
Hype Hair
It sounds like you are over processing your hair. If you are coloring your grey with a permanent color, you must wait at least two weeks before relaxing your hair. Stick to either a relaxer or texturizer. Don't over lap the two. It's way too harsh on the hair and is what is causing your hair breakage. For now, consult with a professional at a hair salon near you to help asses the damage done to your hair and to help you on your way to repairing the damage. If you need help finding a salon in your area, check out our salon directory link on the main page.

Hi, I order two glue-less full lace wigs for my little sister who is 14 years old and has Androgenic alopecia. She will be a freshmen in high school soon this year. Her concern with the wigs are....what if someone is cruel enough to pull off the wig in school. As sad as that may sound people can be hateful like that. So my question is to you how can I make sure that the wig is secure enough to not come off if possible. She does not have hair around the perimeter of her head but has some through out the middle. I am not sure who to ask about this, so if you do not know could you direct me to someone who can give me some advice. I will be grateful for the help. Thanks for your time.
Hype Hair
Hello Shawnelle. Kudos to you for being such a great big sister! We understand your concern, but fret not. The lace fronts can be secured so that they won't slip or come off. They can either be sewn onto the hair at the crown or you can use wig clips that can be placed inside the wig to secure it so that it will stay in place. If you need help with this process, visit your local salon. You can use our salon directory on our main page if you need help finding one. A professional will be able to secure the wig for your sister so that it will stay in place. Best wishes to you both!

I have very very thick COARSE, natural hair and last week I attempted to dye it for the first time. Because of the thickness it took about 30 minutes to put the dye in and then I left it in for an hour so it could take properly. I worked it in the entire time, going from root to tip and parting it to be sure it took which it looked like it did. To my surprise it did not take like it did and I need to re-dye it. What do I need to do and how long do I need to wait before applying the dye again? I would appreciate the advice.
Hype Hair
If you go over it again too soon you risk damaging your hair in he process.Wait a few weeks. IN the meantime, visit a professional to determine what can be done for your situation.

Using the undertones in your skin is a good starting point and your stylist should have a trained eye for determining what shade will work for you. We also suggest trying on a few wigs in various shade to see what color looks good on you and go from there.

I HAVE RELAXED HAIR THAT IS SUPER THIN.IT ALWAYS BREAKS OFF AT MY EDGES,IN THE CENTER OF MY HEAD AND THE MIDDLE SECTION AT THE BACK OF MY HEAD ALL AT THE SAME TIME WHENEVER MY HAIR REACHES CHIN LENGTH..WHAT SHOULD I DO OR USE...
Hype Hair
These areas are most likely where you are creating the most stress on your hair. Too much gel on the edges, tight ponytails, ect., can cause dryness and in turn, breakage. This is especially true if your hair is relaxed, since it is most fragile in this state.

Even though your thick tresses may seem like the bane of your existence, there are many gorgeous styles you can create with thicker hair. Try a few back flipped curls around the crown areas for a cute yet unique look.

Hype Hair
Yes, your hair can certainly grow back that long, as it seems to grow at a quick rate. Just give it some time. Lots of patience is needed when trying to grow your hair to a certain length. We definitely recommend the Mane n Tail brand for maintaining your tresses as they grow.

I do hot oil treatments, protein treatments, deep conditioning and all that good stuff but I only see little growth..what are some good growth products you recommend? If you have a lot of split ends, your hair will only grow to a certain point and then break off where the split ends begin. They have to be trimmed for your hair to continue to grow past that length.

exactly what is cowashing?
Hype Hair
Co-washing is the term used for simply conditioning your hair instead of washing it. Since shampooing too often can strip the hair of its natural oils, we recommend just conditioning, or "co-washing" the hair to bring some added moisture to it. You can wash the hair once a week and then co-wash two to three times a week.

I need some tips my usual style is a bantu knot out with some kind of style and decoration.
Hype Hair
Though we love Bantu knots, we understand why you would want a change of style for your prom. Why not switch it up from Bantu knots to a cute two-strand twist style. You can add decorative flavor to the style once its finished by applying some nice sequin-embellished hairpins for a nice touch.

Hype Hair
Manipulate it as little as possible. The less you do with your hair, the better. No rough combing or brushing and be easy on the heat styling tools. Keep your hair moisturized to prevent the hair from getting too dry and always each a balanced diet to create a healthy mane of hair from the inside out.

i have strong i guess healty hair ! i use to have a plan where iwash it every sunday , and ikeep conditionar in it. but when the summer hit ifelt like ishoudnt put heat to my hair b/c iwould sweat it out and it would be a waste of work, so ihad it in a poof ball all the time, and inotice my hair would break off , and then istarted to put the eco-styler gel in to make it curly , but every time i wsh my hair inotice it keeps breaking off ! i'm all natural to . what can ido to keep it growning, and healty and strong ! and still rock it w/o putting more heat to my hair ?
Hype Hair
We recommend paying close attention to how your hair reacts to certain products. Contrary to popular belief, whet works for one head of head doesn't always work for another. If you notice your hair breaking and shedding after using certain products, discontinue using them and go back to your usual hair care routine that was working well for you.

Hey. I have hair thats in between poofy and curly. Its all natural and i don't want to add any heat to it. My hair tends to scrunch up after i wash it and if i want to show its true length i have to straighten it. But even then it just poofs out like an afro. I want to kno wat can i do to get my hair to hang down with tight curls with out adding harmful chemicals?
Hype Hair
Try a twist set with gel. After the hair is set release the twist and loosen them with the fingers for a cool, no heat style.

I want to dye my hair again but the summer of 2010 I used dark&lovely hair dye. It was a very pretty color on me. Later when I went to wash my hair, my hair started falling out so badly. It was like this maybe 3-4 times when I washed it again. I would like to know what should I do differently next time. Should I use a different dye? P.S what can I do to make my hair grow back it was damaged bad & is just starting to grow back. What can I do to speed up the process
Hype Hair
You may have used the hair dye too soon after relaxing your hair if you had it chemically processed before hand. Wait two weeks after relaxing to color your hair. Also, deep condition the hair regularly after treating the hair with color.

Hi, I wanted to bleach my hair a lighter color maybe blond but not platinum I’m between olive and brown complexion do you think this color will fit me? And also I been add rinse in my hair for the past two years blue black will that affect the bleaching process in any way if yes, what do you recommend I do and also what color if not the blond do you recommend? p.s. never bleach my hair before
Hype Hair
Yes, you can absolutely work a blonde color! The wonderful thing about hair color is that you can blend various shades that work perfectly with your skin tone. Keri Hilson's look is a good example of this, as her hair is a result of intermixing different shades. The rinse is ok. Just make sure that it is completely rinsed out before having your hair bleached.Since this is your first time having your hair colored, don't attempt this process at home. Consult with a professional to have it done.

i just recently (march) relaxed my hair after being natural for almost 2yrs after my pregnancy and now my hair is breaking off and shedding alot the pastmoth and i was wondering if i should try ashort cut or braids to bring the strength and length back to my hair
Hype Hair
It is common for the hair to begin to shed after pregnancy and the fact that you relaxed your hair shortly after probably exacerbated the problem. Ask your stylist about protein treatments like the one from Aphogee to help stop the shedding.

Marie : Posted On: Sep 18, 2011
I have recently moved to another state. I have been here for about 3 months. Since I've been here I noticed my hair has started to shed a lot during combing. My sister has been experiencing the same problem as well. I was wondering if the change in the water may have an effect on our hair. I was not having this problem before I moved. Do you have any suggestions on conditioning treatments.
Hype Hair
It could be the hard water/change of environment. Talk to your hair stylist about protein treatments that can help stop the shedding.

I am not always able to go to the salon to get my hair done at the salon. It has been about a year and a half since I got my ends clipped. What is the correct way for me to clip my own ends and how often should I clip them? Also, every time I curl my hair, which isn't that often, it seems days later my hair feels so brittle and dry, almost as if it is going to break off. Should I put something on my hair before I curl it?
Hype Hair
Trim your hair every six weeks as needed. This helps to ward off split and dry ends that can ruin any hairstyle. If you must trim your own hair, shampoo and condition first. Rinse and then comb the hair straight down. Trim straight across ends to the length that you want. Sometimes you just need to only 'dust' the ends, meaning trim only about a quarter of an inch of the length off. When you curl your hair, apply an oil moisturizer first and then spritz with a heat protectant spray to protect the hair and prevent brittleness.

My hair has been breaking off alot & I thought my hair was damage because flat ironing & blow drying, so I cut my long hair into a bob. Thinking it would help the breakage, but it didnt. My hair continued to shed and break and my hairs only grow probably an inch and a half this past year. I tried taking vitamins but I haven't seen any result. I also found out I have a thyroid problem and I read on the internet that it may be why my hairs breaking off. I was wondering if there was something I could do that might help my hair grow back long.
Hype Hair
Protecting the hair from breaking is something you can do to preserve the hair you have while it grows. Sleeping in a satin scarf at night protects the hair from drying out and breaking while you sleep. Also, be mindful of how you are handling your hair. Combing and brushing the hair correctly can help prevent breakage. Try products that are geared to your specific hair care needs and eat a healthy balanced diet as well.

When wearing weaves, how long should you go before giving your hair a break
Hype Hair
We recommend going no more than three months with a weave. After than, give the hair a short break before installing a new one.

For a fuller look at the crown, try a wet set. Wash and condition the hair and set the hair on rollers. Sit under a hooded dryer until dry. Release curlers and tease the hair in the crown for lots of body and bounce.

If your hair is naturally thin, there is not much you can do about how it grows in, however you can try styling techniques that make the hair appear thicker. Try a wet set.

Well last week I got my hair done in some weave for the first time where the front of my hair is mines and the back is sewed in. My question is how to keep up with it.
Hype Hair
The main thing is to continue to hair for your own hair underneath the weave. There are many weave care products that can assist you with this.

I'm going on vacation and plan to visit the beach every chance I get. Sun and salt water is on my daily agenda. I'm usually in a wig or twists but my tight curls will be a frizzy mess on the beach. I don't perm my hair, and I'm not really feeling braids (unless you convince me otherwise). After the beach I want to look good when I go out in the evenings. I'm not sure if I should do a weave or braids ? I am concerned about protecting my hair. I don't want to spend too much money on the weave as I will probably have to take it out when I return. If you recommend a weave, which brand, and what texture what products should I use while sunning and salting?

Hype Hair
We recommend a product that is specifically geared to helping you achieve body and volume to your hair. Try Doo Gro Mega Thick Anti Thinning Growth Lotion. As for keeping your hair straight, apply a straightening serum to the hair first before flat ironing.

If this is your first time attempting to use color in your hair, we suggest consulting with a professional colorist to help assess the condition of your hair. If you hair is broken and damaged, it may be best to wait until your hair is in stronger condition. If you decide to color your hair at home and prevent damage to your hair as much as possible, you can try Creme of Natures Nourishing Permanent Hair Colors.

I made the mistakes of getting french braids a year ago. After having the braids in for no more than a few days, I had to take the braids out because of the tightness. But the damage was already done and my edges have never been the same. I haven't been putting chemicals/relaxers in my hair since. I've been wearing weaves but I make sure not to have the weave put any tension on my edges. I've changed my diet, increased my water in-take, take vitamins daily and my edges are still short. PLEASE HELP!
Hype Hair
Try applying a quality temple balm to your edges twice a day.We suggest Organic Root Stimulator Fertilizing Temple Balm. Protecting the edges is also key. Always be sure to protect the edges at night by wearing a satin scarf or sleeping on a satin pillow case at night.

Im interested in the modern short hair styles but im really interested in keeping my hair a medium length and adding hair color or highlights.. Please help!!!

If you are looking for a shorter style without having to cut your own lengthy hair, a good technique for you would be to try a weave cap. This technique allows you the convenience of having a shorter look and highlights with ease. Ask your hairstylist for more about this great technique!

My hair is down 3 inches from the middle of my back and it's thick. I get my hair pressed and flat ironed. I would like to know what can I do to make my hair grow a couple more inches longer, which products can I use or what style should I wear it in to get it to grow longer. Thank You Carmelita
Hype Hair
If you are looking to grow your hair to a longer length, it is best to choose protective styles that keep the ends covered. You can choose chignons or loose buns and even braids. Keeping the ends protected through styling is key to preventing breakage. This, in turn, allows you to keep the length that you have while your hair grows.

Ilove to wear weave in my head i dont never give my hair time to breath what can i do to keep my hair healthy and do dont damage my real hair
Hype Hair
Whenever you wear weaves, it is important to be sure that it is not installed too tightly to prevent breakage. Although wearing your hair in weaves is a great protective style that can give your hair time to grow, it can actually have the opposite affect if the weave is too tight. The second thing to do is to make sure you take care of your hair the same way you would if you were not wearing a weave. The hair should be washed every week. Use a hooded dryer to make sure the hair is completely dried after washing and always make sure that you keep your hair moisturized while wearing a weave. You can use products that have a tip applicator so that you can apply moisturizer to those hard to reach spots between the braids and the wefts. Try Aphogee Essential Oils For Hair.
