I have thick hair but it grows very slowly. I wanna find something that will make my hair longer not thicker. Any ideas?
Hype Hair
Outside of relaxing, pressing or flat ironing, there is not much you can do about the natural texture and thickness of your hair. To grow it, you have to take good care of your hair. Shampooing and conditioning regularly, using products geared to your hair type, trimming off damaged and split ends, protecting your hair from harsh environmental elements and eating right all come into play.

Hello Hype hair. When i was younger i burned a patch in my hair with the straightening comb and now the spot wont grow back. it is just a random short spot in the middle of my head. Also my hair suffers from dandriff and constant breakage.I also wear alot of quickweaves because i just dont know what to do with my hair anymore and am worried that the glue can be damaging to my hair. I want to make my hair healthier and less prone to break. Can you recommend products to help with my hair growth and the health of my scalp??
Hype Hair
We recommend using bonding glue very sparingly, as it can exacerbate the problem you are having. If you are going to go with a quick weave, use the net cap technique instead.

I have really bad dirt build up in my hair. It goes away when I relax it but not with regular wash what should I do. I've gone to different hairstylist and they have not told me what to do or how to maintain health hair. Please help!
Hype Hair
We recommend a clarifying shampoo to get rid of product buildup, but use it no more than twice a week.

I stopped putting perms on my hair about a yearand a half ago and my hair has grown alot but when I try to wear my own hair it seems as though it does not get straight with pressing and flat ironing. I know my ends are bad but I don't want to cut them until my hair grows long enough to where I can spare the inch or two Is that safe or will they get worse and worse. Can damaged ends and hair be fixed without cutting them off
Hype Hair
We suggest keeping a good conditioner on the ends to keep them soft and manageable, and also wearing protective styles such as buns, braids and weaves that are installed properly until your hair is at a length that you are comfortable with before cutting off the ends.

I have been using Carol's Daughter elixir and hair balm, it seems to be working well in my hair.. Its fine silky and longer.. What is your option for this line of products? Also I want to get away from perms and attempt an alternative method... Any suggestions for this?
Hype Hair
We love the Carol's Daughter brand. It is excellent for all hair types. As for alternatives to relaxing, You can try having your hair textured instead of relaxing it. Consult with a professional to assess the condition of your hair first before attempting this.

Hi hype hair, i am your #1 fan of your magazines it always gives good tips on hair but i been having issues on the best quality weaves.Im really picky about how i want my weaves to look and its texture, im hoping you can give me good advice to the best name brand quality weave ,wigs or lace fronts that i can part anywhere and style it anyway and keep for along time like beyonce's or any other female celebrity style hair.
Hype Hair
There are many celebrities who pay hundreds of dollars for all of the best brands available, but we like to recommend great brands for our readers that are not only of great quality, but that are also affordable as well. Our friends at Sensationnel provide both quality and affordable products from everything from weaves and wigs to lace fronts. Check out their great variety at sensationnel.com

Hype Hair
Staying consistent with a good hair care regimen is key. Keep the hair clean and conditioned regularly, use protective styles and keep manipulation of the hair to a minimum. Protect your hair at night with a scarf or satin pillow case and use heat styling tools minimally.

My hair i cut it four months ago, i have a women who use to braid my hair but i had went to a salon to get it cut and start all over because of being stress. i am trying to go back to the braiding and my hair is the back is not long enough. it always get unbraided in the back first, i can't afford to go to the salon so i been conditioning it at home but theres still no growth, im trying to go natural and just use the straighter but the straighter cant even grab the back of the hair to curl it nor do i know how deal with a straighter when its this short, what other solutions do i have to get my hair to grow back again? i cant keep on swithing to the women who braids my hair to the guy who cut it because my hair falls out easily.I tried to do a sew in but my hair is not long enough in the back for braiding, please comment.
Hype Hair
Sometimes, you can do too much with your hair. Too tight braids along with the constant use of heat styling tools can wreak havoc on your hair. Try giving your hair a break for a while from both styling methods. Keep it clean and deep condition often. Protect it at night by tying it up at night with a scarf and trim off all split ends. This helps the hair to grow back in healthy.

Hi,My hair has been permed since i was 6. I dont know what texture my hair is. I want my hair natually curly instead of straight. Any hair products i should use to get this look ?
Hype Hair
In order to go back to you natural texture, you would have to completely cease from using relaxers in your hair. You can transition slowly or go for the big chop.

I want to dye my hair blonde. There are so many different shades of blondes. My sister said I should try platinum blonde like Amber Rose but I want to try the blonde Eva Pigford had before she went platinum. Can you tell me that color if you know? Also I am a light brown complextion with a very light undertone. My skin color is very different from other african americans.
Hype Hair
Eva's hue is a nice blend of several shades of blonde intermixed. A professional hairstylist will be able to help you decide the trio of tones that work best for your skin color. Bring her a photo and work from there on achieving the perfect hue for you.

What could I to grow hair back on a bold spot after a perm burn. Will it ever grow back?
Hype Hair
Treat your scalp burn as you would any other burn. Do not irritate it further by scratching or picking at it. It's important to let it heal properly. You can apply an ointment over it to help sooth the burn and use gentle products without alcohol. Treat the area gently until is heals completely. Your hair should grow back eventually.

Hey Hype Hair! I am 20 yrs old and I still cant manage to grow my hair back to where it was when I was younger. What products would you recommend for me? I already have super thick hair.
Hype Hair
Sometimes having split ends can prevent your hair from growing to great lengths. Visit a hair salon and have a professional stylist assess the condition of your hair. If you have a lot of split ends, having them trimmed can get you off to a great start in growing your hair to the length you want, but it will take some time so be patient.

Hey hype hair. I've been having this problem with the back of my hair. It's like I have a bald spot & its itches from time to time Sometimes I get a bump there but its underneath my skin. I talked to my hairstylist and she dosent know what it could be. What do you think it is ? How can I get rid of it ?
Hype Hair
You may be allergic to some of the products you are using. We recommend visiting a dermatologist to determine what the cause of it is.

The back of my hair won't grow no matter how much I braid it. How can i get it to grow?
Hype Hair
Often times, problems in the nape are do to excessive breakage. Be sure to protect your hair at night by covering with a satin bonnet or scarf,

I have been relaxing my hair my whole life. I just recently decided to grow my hair out natural because of the damage and breakage. My hair is thin, brittle, and dry. I tend to have a problem with most moisturizers because they leave my hair very heavy. What products would you recommend to strengthen my hair and moisturize it without weighing it down? Also, besides a sew in or braids what style would you recommend?
Hype Hair
We love botanical oils for moisturizing the hair without weighing it down. Try essentials oils from Doo Gro and Aphogee.

Hype Hair. I'm trying to make a really tough decision about cutting my hair. I've had long hair my whole life and I'm really bored with it. My cousin said I should try a weave, but I'm afraid that will snatch my hair out. Will a weave really break my hair?
Hype Hair
It really depends on what technique you use and how tight the weave is installed. If you opt for a sew-in, be vocal with your stylist. If the braids and the sew in process is too tight, speak up. This can cause damage to the hair.If you are really worried about damage, try a net cap weave.

Taceania : Posted On: Aug 04, 2011
hello hype my hair is thick and it breaks off pretty easily if I dont relax it I cant deal with it. I dont want to cut it because every time I do it takes forever to grow. All I want is healthy hair and for it to grow what can I do to help that?
Hype Hair
When relaxing the hair, only relax the new growth, not the entire head of hair. Constantly perming already relaxed hair can cause breakage. Keep relaxed hair moisturized at all times. Dry relaxed hair has a tendency to break off easier.

My daughter will be 8yrs next month. Her hair is rediculously thick and eats moisture like crazy. Doing her hair is becoming an issue because it hurts her to comb it. I was considering relaxing it but am very nervous. Any suggestions on alternitves that will allow her her to be at lease managable?
Hype Hair
Try this trick: Part her hair in four section and apply a generous amount of conditioner to each section. Next, using a wide-tooth comb only, start combing the hair from the roots first straight down to the tips. This helps to get rid of tangles before styling the hair.

Hello, I have been trying to dye my hair brown over a month using soft sheen dark & lovely hair color products; i've tried their products more than once and have not achieved the desired color; could u tell me why it hasn't worked; is the shade 2 dark? My hair is the darkest brown already but it looks black. Thank You.
Hype Hair
It's usually harder to go from a darker color to a lighter color. If your hair is already black, the color would have to be lifted to lighten the darker shade. We recommend consulting with a professional colorist to help you with this process.

Hype Hair
Hello and thank you for your comment. We are happy to hear that you and your child made the decision to transition back to natural, as relaxers can be harsh on little scalps. You should definitely mooisturize the scalp when the hair is dry and brittle. Keeping the hair moisturized is key. Try Sof'n free'n Pretty hair products for kids.

I 've being wearing sew-on extensions regularly,i would keep them in for about three to four weeks.I realized that my scalp is flaky. What can i do to help?

Flaky scalp is a result of dry skin on the scalp. Using a quality dandruff shampoo can assist with this problem.

A texturizer loosens your natural curl pattern to make the hair more manageable while a relaxer changes the texture of your hair altogether.

hair has a thin spot on temple can't seem to help it what can i do to bring it back thicker and healthier?
Hype Hair
If you are styling your hair is ways that can cause tension on the edges (braids, ponytails, weaves), you may need to make sure you are not pulling your hair too tight in those areas. In the meantime, try Organic Root Stimulator Fertilizing Temple Balm to the edges twice a day and sleep in something that protects your edges at night while you sleep.

Hype Hair
The best thing that you can do to help stimulate growth is to keep the hair moisturized. Textured hair tends to get dryer easier and this results in breakage. Try Motions DPT to deep condition the hair.
