CoWashing
A great way to keep your hair soft and manageable is to do co washes between shampooing your hair. This is perfect for those with natural hair, but the technique can be used for every hair type. Try CoWashes, using conditioner instead of shampoo. Deep conditioners usually have cleansing as well as replenishing agents. Simple apply a generous amount of conditioner to the hair when you get in the shower and comb through. Let it sit for 5 minutes, rinse and go! The As I Am brand has a great cowash product that makes natural hair so soft and manageable.

Hi, I have had long hair once upon a time. I usually keepy hair in micros or kinky twist. Im trying to get my hair to grow back to the length that I once had. I dont know how to take care of my own hair or how to do it and I am wondering what can I use and do to it to make it start growing?

I wanted to grow my hair to my shoulders but how can I stretch my hair after it is washed?
Hype Hair
If your hair is natural, you can try a roller set to stretch the length or the curl pattern.

hi, i am just finishing chemo treatments, what can I do or use to start my hair growing back faster?
Hype Hair
Hello and thank you for reaching out to us. We have referred to our friend Dr. Maclin to answer your questions and we wish you all the best with your recovery. God bless!

"When you were on chemotherapy, it shut down all of your actively growing hair roots, which causes the hair to come out. The good news is that typically once you stop all chemo treatments, your hair roots can get back on track, which has happened to you. You didn’t say if you were using any chemical relaxers or hair dyes now, but I would avoid them to make sure to keep as many hair roots working as possible. As far as speeding up your hair growth, this has to start from the inside of your body, as topical hair growth lotions or potions will not work. And, the basic hair vitamins are not specifically for your hair roots. I definitely recommend speaking with your doctor about taking a hair supplement which contains special marine proteins that specifically target your hair roots to speed up hair growth. BellaNutri helps to make your hair stronger and thicker, even in thin or bald areas. Make sure to stay consistent for at least six months, which is the time it takes for all of your hair roots to get completely stimulated."

Hi I wash my hair and sometimes I curl it with rollers and sit under the hair dryer nd sometimes I blow try it out and use electric curlers to curl it then wrap my hair. IN your opinion which is better and healthier for my hair?
Hype Hair
We would suggest the former technique, since you are not using a heat styling tool directly on the hair.

IM KEYONNA AND IM 18 YEARS OLD AND EVER SINCE I WAS A LITTLE GIRL I GOT A PERM AT A VERY YOUNG AGE AND IT TOOK OUT MY HAIR ON BOTH SIDES AT THE TEMPLE AREA I JUST WANT TO KNOW WHAT CAN I USE TO HELP IT GROW BACK AND WHAT CAN I USE TO GET ALL OF MY HAIR TO GROW NOT JUST MY SIDES
Hype Hair
Having your hair chemically processed on a regular basis over time can be detrimental to your hair after a while. Especially if the proper care isn't given. If you must insist on relaxing, only do touchup on the new growth, never the previously relaxed hair. You also want to pay close attention to the outer perimeter of the hair, such as the edged and nape. Choose a good temple balm like the one carried by the ORS brand. You also want to sleep on a satin pillowcase or in a satin bonnet or scarf to protect your edges while you sleep.

Hey, I'm having a hard time getting the middle of my hair to grow back. It seems that all my hair around it grows fine but just not that one spot in the middle. I wonder if you have any suggestions for this problem.
Hype Hair
Be mindful of the types of techniques you are using to style your hair. If you weaves weaves constantly that have the closing at the top of your head, this could be cause your breaking. Over processing and wearing style, like ponytails, could also be culprits.

hi I am having issues with I have microbraids and I don't want to use too many products that will cause build up on the ends of my hair or cause my braids to become loose. I wash the weave once a month and used a deep moisturizing shampoo which hasn't helped with the dry itchy and flaky scalp I tried another hot treatment is caused more scalp dryness and flaking I am wondering should I use a dry shampoo and I am allergic to any products that have petroleum and I amnt want type of products that are of quality to use on my hair my stylist recommend using ginseng spray I haven't brought it yet due to the fact I fear it willnt help with keeping my scalp moisturized and health I would appreciate greatily in finding a solution to my issue I am having with my scalp even used olive oil my scalp eats it up pls help me with this issue thank you very much
Hype Hair
A dry shampoo may be the better option for you. We also suggest using a braid spray every day to keep the scalp moisturized.

I recently had a very tough year in 2012. I am ready for a new change. Here's the problem. I relax my hair and color it. I have long hair past my shoulder. I come from mix heritage ( African-American, Native American,& Caucasian). I use curling iron approximately everyday, except when I pin my hair in a bun. I have been wearing my hair in the same style for years. When I went to church last Sunday, my 13 yrs. old daughter told me, " Mom, " you have Big Hair". I am 44 yrs. old. I just want to cut my hair off. My husband & daughter would rather see me with long hair. I am torn in what should I do, because, when I previously cut my hair extremly short, it took quite a while for me to get it where I wanted it to be. So enough said. I was wondering, what is the name of the style that looks naturally curly, wear you can go versitile from curly to straight look. ( I know it not like the old Jerri-Curl) Now, I really telling my age (LOL). I really need some help.
Hype Hair
You may be referring to the "wet and wavy" look. We suggest looking through some of our issues and finding a similar style to the one you are referring to. Show it to a professional stylist who can help you achieve just the look you want.

I recently had some kinky twists in my hair for 3 months. I took them out and trued to remain natural but it wasn:t working for me. I got a perm about 3 weeks after trying natural. Since then my hair is very thin, it will not hold curls,or stay in a wrap.
Hype Hair
We usually recommend waiting a for a good period of time before relaxing your hair after removing braids. The hair is usually in a vulnerable state at that time. Try deep conditioning twice a week and talk to your salon professional about a protein treatment to help strengthen your hair.

My edges are thin and I guess I'll say they're "fuzzy" for lack of a better word. I've straightened them so they will at least be sleek like the rest of my hair (which is actually really healthy other then some split ends)but it only lasts for like a day and then it reverts back. I've stopped straightening them to avoid not having a hairline since my edges don't grow back. They're also really dry even though I oil them as often as the rest of my hair. Is there anything I can do to save my edges? Please help

You may need a deep conditioning treatment. Talk to your salon professional about your options. For future reference, never relax and color your hair at once. Always wait two weeks between chemical processing treatments.

I have semi long hair and it has highlights, I want something to soften my hair but doing the natural thing at the same time. I dont want to cut my hair to get the dead ends gone. What other alternative can I do and what products would be best? I am bi racial and have the mixed hair
Hype Hair
The only way to get rid of damaged ends it to trim them off, but you don't have to cut a lot off at once. You can trim them off gradually as your hair grows. In the meantime, keep your ends conditioned as much as possible and wear protective styles to shield your ends from further damage.

Sharell : Posted On: Nov 13, 2012

Hype Hair
Try Organic Root Stimulator Hair Repair Anti Breakage Creme to help ward off hair damage and breakage.

Hype Hair
You can do slight trims every few weeks. Just simply "dust" the ends slightly. Trimming a little at a time like this is a great alternative to chopping a lot off at once.

Hello I am 1 year post perm and 6 months post big chop. I think I am mostly Type 4C (tight coild) texture hair. I have been co washing my hair everyday and i wear it in an afro or a puff ball(recent style).I have been using Kinky Curly Knot Today and SheaMositure Curling Souffle on my hair, is there another product that you recommend for my hair? Or any other methods you think will help grow my hair?
Hype Hair
All of the products that you are currently using are some of our favorites, so we would suggest keeping those in your hair care arsenal. You can also add As I Am products as well as Motions You products to your routine. Carol's Daughter also has some great products for natural hair. As for styles, try bantu knots. They are a great style for natural hair.

I think I have traction alopecia around my edges. I've had a bad habit of tight ponytails & buns as far back as I can remember. A bad texturizer & super tight kinky twists later my edges have been super weak fragile thin and dry. I've started using carol's daughter's monoi line and they seem to have thickened up a bit but I can't really tell. Is there any way to know for sure if I have traction alopecia and if so is there any hope of reversing it?

Hi I'm 11 years old when I was young my hair fell out because of a relaxer. it grew back but not the length I want it. can you please tell me want products to use please. I would like a weave but I don't know which hair I should use. Please help :(

Sheneda : Posted On: Oct 04, 2012
Hello, i recently suffered alot of damage due to weaving so i began to look into other techniques of adding hair and i found this company Qlassy Hair that sell fusion extensions. The extensions are applied using tiny micro bead and not glues (dont like glue), I tried the extensions and got about 3 inches of growth, the extensions lasted for up to 5 months with one application, very lightweight and felt like nothing was there. Alot of my Caucasian friend wore them and i didnt know if it would work for black hair but it was amazing and i will never weave again. Have you ever heard of this technique and why do you think most black woman have never heard of it. in my experience they are alot better for the hair and scalp.
Hype Hair
We have heard of the process, which can tend to run very expensive these days. If it's a process that works for you, that is wonderful! It's great to search around and try different techniques that work for your particular hair type!

I need a recommendation for a good moisturizer. My edges are broke off & get really really dry but the rest of my hair isn't dry but not oily either. I know your moisturizers are supposed to be water based but because they're water based & I guess it's because I'm natural whenever I use a water based moisturizer my hair reacts like I've thrown water on it. It looks jheri curlish & then it starts to frizz, puff, & tangle. Any suggestions? Please help.
Hype Hair
Use light, natural products on your natural hair for moisturizing, such as Shea butter or light botanical oils (almond, coconut, jojoba, ect.).

Hi I am working out at least four hours a week. I am currently growing my hair out so that I can be all natural and right now I would say 60% of my hair has grown out fully. What kind of style should I wear during the workouts to minimize the amount of times I straighten my hair during the week.
Hype Hair
We recommend pulling the hair back, but not too tight, into a nice and neat bun for workouts. If you are trying to keep from having to straighten your hair too much during the week, try to minimize the sweat around the edges and sides by using Nicole Ari Parker's new Save Your Do Gym Wrap during your workouts. Log onto saveyourdo.com for more details!

Betty : Posted On: Aug 24, 2012
I'm balding in the top and sides, what do I need to use to get my hair to grow? Also, to have weave put in the top to make it full.
Hype Hair
If you are going to choose a weaved style, we recommend the net cap weaving technique, as it is less harsh on your hair. Try Organic Root Stimulator's Temple Balm to help grow in the thinning areas of your hair and stay away from styles that cause stress to those particular areas.

Lo : Posted On: Aug 24, 2012
I wear weave in my hair a lot and while the parts of my hair that are under my cap seem to be growing(with a lot of damage), my hair that is left out (the top of my head and my edges) are breaking off and they won't grow... what can I do to fix to it?
Hype Hair
When any of your hair is left out you still need to take pristine care of it just as you would if you were not wearing a weave. This means shampooing and conditioning at least weekly, and moisturizing and protecting the hair with a satin scarf at night while you sleep. Your hair will grow, but how you take care of your hair will make a huge difference.

My hair is thick and when I part it or comb it my hair hurts and sore after combing
Hype Hair
Sounds like you have a tender scalp. Go easy on it and take your time when parting and combing the hair. The trick is to be as gentle as possible when combing. We recommend combing the hair only when you have applied a conditioner through it. This makes the combing process easier.

You already have the right ideas in mind. Neat, low chignons are perfect for the water park, and so are braids and ponytails. Have a great time!

Right now Im using creme of nature argan oil products but even though my hair has grown pretty thick & I guess pretty quickly (it went from the nape of my neck to shoulder length in about a year)I don't feel like its really helping to repair my hair & my hair is still kind of dry. I want my hair healthy as healthy as possible & Im not a beautician so I don't really know but I don't feel like argan oil is doing it for me.

I started my transition involuntarily, but I began realizing that the relaxed hair and my new growth were clearly different textures. I wanted my hair to stay long, so I had to figure out how to have an appealing transition. My friend introduced me to Nutress Hair products and I was able to get them to one strong, healthy texture. I used the Nutress Stop Break 2-in-1 shampoo and conditioner and the leave in conditioner. I also used the Nutress Protein Pack for Extremely Damaged Hair for protein treatments. When I straighten my hair I use(d) the Nutress Foam Wrap for added protection. The combination of great products and reducing the heat exposure to my hair helped me grow my hair out to a comfortable length, and then chopped the relaxer off. Now, I still use the Nutress products to keep my hair healthy and strong. I put the website up for those of you who want to try it out. All of the products are SUPER affordable (all under $10). Happy hair ladies! www.nutresshair.com

Hello. I am a 43 year old black woman who has always had trouble growing my hair, or keeping it long after wearing braids for a few months. Braids seem to be the only thing that grows my hair evenly, but I love the styles I see that my hair has to be relaxed for. My hair always breaks or sheds. And is extremely dry. What do you suggest I can use as far as shampoo and conditioner, that will help keep the moisture balance when I use a relaxer, and will help grow my hair? I have patience, just want to see some results. I am currently using Motions.
Hype Hair
We suggest using products that have protein in them. They strengthen the hair. Trim off all spit and damaged ends to start fresh. Wear protective styles as much as possible and when relaxing, only relax new growth.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to respond to my question.I've been dying my hair blonde for about 3 years and its for the past year my ends have been breaking Off badly it dries out and feels like Hey, and the ends are brighter than the rest of my hair. I was told to use Motions C.P.R. Treatnent and to keep it moisturized. I've been using the C.P.R. for about 6 months I get a doobie once a week and I will say I don't moisturize it as much as I should.its not breaking like it use to but its not growing and I'm tired of people wiping dead hair off of my shoulders, PLEASE HELP ME HYPE HAIR what do I do?
Hype Hair
You may be suffering from split and damaged ends due to all of the coloring that you have been doing. We recommend trimming the hair a little to get rid of the split ends and see how that works. Keep the ends moisturized as well, as this part of your hair is very vulnerable to breakage. Protect the hair at night, as you sleep, with a silk scarf, bonnet or pillow case and wear protective styles (braids, buns, chignons, sew-ins, but not too tight) as often as you can to keep the ends protected as your hair grows in.

I cut my hair in August of 2011 & the right side was halfway down my ear the left side was at the bottom of my ear & the back was at the nape of my neck. Now my hair is even again and its a little passed my shoulders. So its been growing but not really at the rate I would like it to be. Is there anyway to speed up the process of hair growth or any tips on how to retain length. Also my ends seem to be split idk if there is anyway to fix that cause I really dont want to have to cut my hair again

Sharddi : Posted On: Jul 09, 2012
I have been natural for almost 5 years. Instead of doing the big chop, I cut my hair every few months until all the permed pieces were gone. I flat iron my hair about once a month. My problem is that I think my flat ironing is changing the texture of the front and crown of my head because it is nowhere near as curly as the back. What products and/or alternative styles could I do or use to bring the curliness all over?
Hype Hair
Flat ironing your hair on a regular basis will absolutely change the texture of your naturally curly hair over time. Try doing a spiral curl rod set to change it up a bit and to give the flat ironing a rest for a while.

Hi, My hair broke off and came on in the mole of my hair. So I have a big bald spot there. I have been trying to grow it back there in that spot as well as the rest rest of my hair from breakage and damage. I haven't relaxed my hair in months. Are there any specific type of hair care products I can use to help with the breakage and regrowth? Any suggestions or tips will be greatly appreciated so that I can regrow my hair back to it's original length. It use to be long, now its short and uneven and hair to keep straightened especial during the summer months. Thanks and God Bless.
Hype Hair
Stay away from styles that put too much stress on thinning areas of the head, such as tight ponytails and tight braids. Try products from the Organic Root Stimulator line to help with re-growth. In the meantime, try a net cap weave to cover up the thinning areas of the hair for now until they grows back in.

I had been noticing my hair is shedding very badly since then as well as the edges are thinning. I am assuming its brittle and breaking off because of over processing and chemical burn to my scalp. When I wash my hair, there's a lot of hair everywhere. I believe its falling out and I want to cut it. What should I do when braids aren't an option?? What can I do about my edges too??

But this time it seems like my hair is getting worse and I feel like I am going bald. I am considering going back to perms. What should I do?? HELP !! =(

We suggest using products geared toward natural hair. Mixed Chicks, As I Am, SheaMoisture and Motions' Naturally You product lines are great. Natural hair needs a lot of moisture and proper care. Try protective styles such as cornrows and box braids for a while to give your hair a rest and help it to grow in. Make sure, however, that the braids are not done too tight.

I've decided to go natural after having a perm for over 10 years. I haven't had a perm in about 2 months. The problem is, parts of my hair is thicker than others and I sweat in the head. I dont want to do the big chop so what products do you recommend and what steps do I need to take to make this transition easier?
Hype Hair
Try the As I Am product line. It's perfect for transitioning and natural hair.

Someone please tell me how to get styling wax out of my hair. I have tried dish washing liquid, all different shampoos--I have blow dried it, washed it again, and used dry shampoo. My hair is still very oily. The wax hasnt lifted at all. It is to oily to wrap. Any suggestions ?
Hype Hair
Dish washing liquid is way too harsh for your hair. Never use that. There are many lines on the market that carry clarifying shampoos. Always use a clarifying shampoo when you want to lift heavy oils and wax off of the hair and scalp.

Somebody help me! my hair is very very short I want it long to my back before the big show on June 1,2012 please help me what products should I be using?
Hype Hair
Hi Kayla, the hair grows about 1 1/2 inches every 1 to two months, so it is going to take some time for it to grow to your back if it is short right now. Patience is the key!

Kayla : Posted On: May 09, 2012
Hi, my hair is short and I want it long and strong like Ciara hair is what should I be using Dr. mircale's or Mega growth or soft n free n pretty I'm 11 by the way.

Those are all great products to try, but we recommend the Sof n Free brand for kids your age.

I wanted to know if it is really neseccary to trim your ends every 2 months? My beautician says yes, but i've heard other beauticians say no. If it is neseccary, how much should be trimmed? Everytime i trim my hair, it never seems to get any longer. I looks shorter and by the time its time to trim it again, it's only grown back to where it was before i trimmed it.
Hype Hair
You should only trim your hair if you have if there is irreparable damage to the hair, such as split ends. Split ends can be sealed with product, but eventually your hair is going to break off over time. This is where trimming the hair comes in. On the other hand, if your hair is already in a healthy state and your ends look good and are free of the aforementioned problems, there is no need to trim.

Hello... I am 19. My natural hair has a tight curl pattern. It can be dry at the roots and hard to straighten without being stiff, and it breaks off easy. I've always had hair issues. When i was a kid my hair was super thick, nappy, and matted; my mom had no idea what to do. Now I have a relaxer, and I want to cut it. I really don't want to keep getting relaxers, but I know when my roots start to grow back, they're so dry, thick, and tightly curled, which makes my hair hard to manage. What products can I use that will nurture my roots and natural hair when it starts to grow back so that I can keep my roots loose, straightened healthy, and not dry and stiff looking? Also what products prevent end splitting and strengthen hair that is relaxed? Thanks.
Hype Hair
Our editors swear by the As I Am, SheaMoisture and Mixed Chicks hair care lines for natural hair. They are excellent!

Jasmin : Posted On: Mar 29, 2012
hi im jasmin and i recently notice my hair balding like in two spots right in the front of my hair. honestly i dont take care of my hair at all because i hate blow drying and straightening my hair. i just put my hair in a ponytail and im done. could that be the reason? how can i go about growing it back? how can i keep my hair healthy without doing too much work to it?
Hype Hair
It is important to note that when it comes to the health of your hair, what you put in is what you get out. Just like taking care of your teeth and body is important to keeping them healthy, the same goes for your hair. If the lack of care is there, it will show. So we recommend a weekly shampoo and conditioning routine, sleeping on a satin pillow case at night to protect from breakage, eating healthy, moisturizing daily and trimming off split and damaged ends when necessary. Pulling your hair back in ponytails too often can break your hair off if they are pulled too tight to constantly. We recommend a break from ponytails, blow-drying and straightening for a while to give your hair a rest.

I want to know that if I get a sew in on my hair , Will it break it , I have a perm & My hair is somewhat thick but Im 12 . Will any damage happen? Please help. Thanks
Hype Hair
We don't really recommend weaves for someone as young as yourself. Why not try some pretty braids or ponytails? They always look so pretty! Make sure they are not too tight, though. You want to prevent breakage that way.

Hello. I have been getting sew-in weaves for about 3 years now and it seems that instead of it actually growing my hair that it is actually thinning it out. Another issue I have is that I don't like for my hair or my tracks to look stringy when I add hair grease to my scalp because it tends to where my hair down. Is there a good scalp cream or something that I can oil my scalp with without weighing my hair down?
Hype Hair
Try Aphogee Essential Oils. It's lightweight and will keep your hair moisturized without weight it down.

PLEASE HELP ME!
Hype Hair
The key is maintaining the health of your hair once you take the braids out. Hair in its natural state can be very fragile. Especially textured hair. As soon as you take your braids out, you must implement a deep conditioning regimen into your hair care routine to help maintain the growth that you have obtained from the braids. Or keep a leave in conditioner in your hair as much as possible. This keeps the hair strong and manageable and less prone to breakage. Also, stay away from harsh brushing and combing.

Hi, I keep my hair in weaves literally out for two days and then back in. It seems to be growing naturally since i stopped perming my hair a few years ago but not as much as I thought. Is there a hair care system that I could try to condition and maintain my hair while it remains braided up in a weave?
Hype Hair
Yes. Try the Shea Moisture and As I Am hair care brands. They are excellent for natural hair.

I have actually think about cutting off into a short hair cut style and starting all over again. Our are there any other recommendations that you can help me with
Hype Hair
You may be experiencing breakage due to too much chemical processing. We recommend protective styles like braids to help get your hair back in order, but make sure these styles are not too tight.

Try a weave in a color that you have always wanted. Color always adds some extra punch to a style.

Hype Hair
Use a good deep conditioner weekly to help build your hair back up. Try the ones that are formulated with protein, as protein helps to grow and strengthen the hair.

Whenever i blow dry my hair straight and straighten it my hair is always kinda stiff. Like it doesn't move and on occasion if it does blow in the wind it never goes perfectly back into place i always have to brush it back down. I don't get perms or anything like that because they break my edges and my hair is generally nice and "perm like" without one. I don't mean to compare our hair with Asian hair but like if the wind blew their hair it would just fall back into place. How do i get my hair to not be so stiff??
Hype Hair
You are probably using too much product in your hair. If you want that wispy, carefree style you long for, it is best to keep it product light, as heavy product can stiffen the hair. Lay low on the gels, heavy hair creams and holding sprays.

Edot : Posted On: Feb 28, 2012
So I have decided to go natural and cut most of the perm hair off. At the moment I have semi-micro in braided my hair however, the braids have taken out the sides and back of my hair. I’m taking these braids out and will NEVER get then again. I’m still a little self conscious about my little fro and was wonder what kind of style can I rock until my hair grows out. Is there a product I can use to help it grow faster? Is weave an ok style to wear?
Hype Hair
Weaves are great protective styles to wear if you are still self conscious about your hair in its in between stage. Two strand twists and bantu knots are also great styles. We love As I Am and SheaMoisture hair care products for natural hair.

I need help. i actually hate my hair, like literally HATE IT! It growsout and i dont want an afro....why cant it just grow down. Is there any products there on the shelf that can smooth it down and stop it looking like an afro?
Hype Hair
Loving and cultivating your own head of hair is the first step to achieving the look that you want. If you wish not to have an afro, there are other alternatives. Assuming that you are relaxer free, you can always flat iron your hair into a smooth bob, but use a heat protectant spray to shield your hair from the heat.

im transitioning from relaxers. its been four months and i got blonde highlights in my hair and it broke of in one spot and im concerned and dont know what to do?? i done had gave myself treatments but dont what to do or maybe doing something wrong..
Hype Hair
When evr you are transitioning from relaxed hair to natural hair, your hair is going to be in an extra vulnerable state. Therefore it will need extra love and care. The breakage may be caused by relaxing your hair too soon after the last time you applied highlights. Since you are no longer relaxing your hair, we also suggest taking a break from coloring until you have fully transitioned to natural hair.

HELP!! I am the proud mother of 3 mixed (black father/white mother) daughters. My oldest (age 9) has beautiful, but very hard to manage hair. It's literally the thickest hair I've ever seen. She definitely took more after her father in pretty much every aspect, including hair. I've tried so many different things. We've even put perms in it, which I now regret bc it removed her beautiful curls. Her hair is so thick and "big", if we don't keep it braided it's a nightmare for us all. We'd really like to "relax", smooth, moisturize, (her hair is so dry no matter what we put in it) and basically just get her hair in control without having to braid it. What do I do? What can I use?? Please someone help me!! Thank you!!

I've had my hair most of the time in braids and recently, weaves. Now whenever I take out the braids/weaves, around my hair it's like it's eaten up. In the middle of my hair it is full but I want to grow it longer; also the eaten up parts. Help please!
Hype Hair
Your hair needs a serious break from braids for a while. More than likely, they were just too tight when they were down, and as a result, your hair became badly broken and damaged. Your edges are the most vulnerable area of your hair, so they must be treated gently.

Monique : Posted On: Jan 22, 2012
I have about 6 inches on the top of my head and the sides and back are shaved off, kind of like Cassie's. The hair I do have is healthy. I want to grow the shaves part out, I don't mid relaxers because I have one. How would you suggest I grow my hair our and what products would you suggest for the transition phase. Pomades, workable wax by bumble and bumble, bead heads punk out? I know soon it will end up looking like Halley Berrys hair on the sides and back and I just need to know how to grow it our properly and some products to use. Thanks
Hype Hair
You should actually be cutting down on pomades, molding pastes and waxes when you are trying to grow out your hair, as these types of products often clog the pores. If you are in that in between growth period, you can try protective styles, such as braids and cornrows as the hair grows out. Braids are so healthy for the hair and can actually help your hair grow if they are done properly. Never make them too tight, though, or it can have the opposite affect you are going for.

Hi..I just took a sew in out that was in for about 3 months. How long should I wait to get my natural hair relaxed or should I get a hot oil treatment and flat ironed??
Hype Hair
Getting a nice hot oil treatment isn't such a bad idea. We recommend letting your hair rest a couple of weeks before re-installing another weave.

Hi. I got my hair cut like a year ago and i haven't gone back in awhile but i have to make an appt. now because my hair is breaking off really bad in the back with the new growth. someone told me that i have to cut all my hair short and close to the scalp in order to restore my hair. i really don't want to cut it short again because i want to grow it out but it doesn't look like i have a choice...help?
Hype Hair
Sometimes when you are working with two textures of hair-the new growth and the relaxed ends-it can cause breakage if you do not know how to properly care for the hair when its in an in between state. We suggest relaxing the new growth and taking supreme care of your hair with regular deep conditioning.

Erin : Posted On: Jan 09, 2012
Hi, I relaxed and cut my here about four months ago and the first two months it grew back very healthy and long so I cut it again and now my hair is breaking off and the texture of my hair has changed. I just want to know How I get my hair back healthy and to start growing again.
Hype Hair
Keep in mind that once you cut your hair and it starts to grow back in healthy, you don't have to cut it again if its already in good shape. For now, just continue on a good hair care routine of washing and conditioning weekly and protecting the hair as you sleep in a good scarf. It will grow back in due time.

Nikkii A. : Posted On: Jan 07, 2012
My hair is breaking off really bad in the middle of my head. I really don't want to cut it off. What should I do??
Hype Hair
Are you wearing high stress styles like ponytails, buns are braids that are too tight? This may be the cause of the hair breakage, especially if such styles are concentrated at the middle of the head. Give your self a rest from such styles for s while to help prevent the breakage.

Mychi : Posted On: Jan 05, 2012
Whenever I go to hair styling salons, I would just surely have a trim of a hair treatment. My hair was just always straight. I have an oval face and I'm afraid what haircuts is good for me. Any idea?
Hype Hair
Since your hair is already straight and your ends healthy looking due to rimming, we recommend a nice sleek bob look. Whether your hair is short, medium or long, bobs are always a great look for those with oval shaped faces.

I am transitioning to natural. I have worn kinky twisttwice:once with Human inky hair that comes in a ball. and once with synthetic Marley hair, which I liked the most. My questions: 1. Does it make a difference human vs. synthetic for twist and braids? 2. How do you moisturize, wash and condition braids and twist?
Hype Hair
1.Synthetic can work just as well as human hair, but we do recommend being mindful of the quality of synthetic hair that you use. Always use the best quality of synthetic hair. 2.Use a quality moisturizer that comes with a nozzle on it so that you can get between braids quicker and easier. Aphogee Essential Oils is a great one and use a quality brand of products that are specifically formulated for extensions. The KeraCare weave care line is excellent. Be gentle when washing and conditioning so that you don't loosen braids and twists.

What is the best way to restore your hair after wearing a wig for a long time? Is there anything that can help?
Hype Hair
Try conditioning the hair regularly to help strengthen it.

Kaneshia : Posted On: Dec 25, 2011
Love the blue magic thanks hype hair!!What is a protein treatment?&also when deep condition&letting hair air dry is there away to keep it moist from shedding..
Hype Hair
We are glad that you like our suggestion! As for protein treatments, your hair needs protein in order to grow, whether it be through eating foods rich in protein (like chicken and fish) or applying products directly to the hair that contain protein. It helps to fortify and strengthen the hair. Aphogee products have a good protein treatment, but try it on a small section of your hair first before using it to make sure that your hair can handle the treatment. Air drying is a great way to take a break from heat. You can apply a leave in conditioner before air drying the hair to prevent shedding and to keep the hair moisturized.

Hi Hype Hair Firstly I want to say thank you for the products you recommended for maintaining my Weave on. I now need some advice since I have tried several human hair weaves and my experience has not been good it’s been a bit scary really. Am not sure if it's the way I take care of the weave hair I have bought or the hair I have bought is not of the best quality. Am thinking of trying the XQ Cuticle Remy hair and would like to know? - Is this hair any good? - What products to use? If this hair is not the best what other hair would you recommend that is shed and tangle free. Your advice will be very much appreciated. Thanks
Hype Hair
Yes, XQ Cuticle Remy hair from Milky Way is an excellent brand. We also recommend weave hair by Sentationnel. Try Keracare's weave care line for upkeep.

Hype Hair
You may be experiencing some shedding due to your recent relaxer. Try a protein treatment and see if that helps. Also, you can try Blue Magic Bergamot to keep your little one's hair moisturized daily.

Hello hype hair i really appreciate your site it truley helps how hard it is taking care of color hair...today i wanted to know is it required to condition once a week will it dry out hair or it keeps it even healthier ? Hot oil treatment what are those used for can u do both condition& treatment?,also which gels are good for hair is jam aloe vera a good one
Hype Hair
We here at Hype Hair are big advocated for conditioning the hair often. Once a week is sufficient enough, but you can always do co-washes to if you prefer conditioning more than once a week. Our friends at As I Am have a great co-washing product. It absolutely keeps the hair healthy. As for hot oil treatments, they also add moisture to the hair and keep it soft, manageable and healthy looking. You can do a hot oil treatment once or twice a month and Jam is a great gel to use.

Hello...if your using a certain hairline for shampoo&conditioner like olive oil elements but there is not a moisturizer is it safe to use another line with a good moisturizer??&also whats a good product for a 1yr old going on 2yrs old right now I'm sticking with vasaline but whn she turns 2 I'm thinking of trying the sulfur 8 line for ages2&up is that a pretty good product?
Hype Hair
Sure, you can mix and match products, but we do not suggest this when it comes to relaxers. When relaxing your hair, it is is best to stick with the same products that come with the kit. As for your little one, we recommend Blue Magic Bergamont. It keeps the hair nice and soft, you only need a little bit and its not to harsh for your daughter's hair.

I love Kelly Rowland styles. What type of hair does she wear? What is the best brand of weave on the market now that last long, do not shed that much, or tangle?
Hype Hair
Kelly Rowland sports a variety of hair looks. Whether she goes short, wigs it out or weaves it up, her hair always looks amazing. Atlanta based hairstylist Paula Britt, who created Kelly's shorter look, uses custom made pieces when creating Kelly's highlights. As for a good, quality brand on the market, we recommend the Sentationnel brand of Remi weaving hair.

After perming my hair since 12 I'm now trying to go natural haven't permed my hair for 3months now I hear it takes a lot of effort idk yet if its something I'm really rdy for ,but I hear chemicals are really bad for your hair. since I haven't permed my hair I try to condition it or cowash it but I still notice breakage Im worried because I really want strong healthy hair what should I do?
Hype Hair
Natural hair can be extremely fragile at times, so handle it with tender love and care. No harsh combing and brushing and be careful with the styles you choose. Nothing too tight, and this includes braids. Cowashing is great for natural tresses, so keep it up. Your hair will strengthen over time.

Hype Hair
Not if it is don't correctly and if you are using a satin or silk, as opposed to a cotton, hair wrap to wray it at night. You should also make sure your edges are moisturized to prevent them from drying out while you sleep.

Too much of anything is not always best for your hair. It's good to switch your products around every once in a while. Though protein based products do have some benefits, it's good to keep the use of them in moderation. Try taking a break from the product and see how your edges respond to it.

thank you so much! but i do have another question, when i do get braids i just have exstentions braided in with my natural hair and it lasts as long as three months and its never braided as tightly. in the past year it has grown from above my ear to my shoulders. it seems to be the fastest way for my hair to grow. should i continue? or should i persue other ways to style my hair such as weaves or wig peices?
Hype Hair
Oh, absolutely stick with braids if it's working for your hair growth. We recommend it as a great protective style. Just continue to make sure they are not done too tight so that they won't cause hair damage.

Kayleigh : Posted On: Nov 16, 2011
hey! i just tured 18 and i am mixed(black/white) my hair reguires moisturizing and relaxers and for the past few years ive been perming and keeping my hair in braids. my hair is shoulder length and frizzy at the tips around my shoulder line. and recently my hair has been thining and breaking off at the crown. i want to grow it back as soon as possible because i have no idea what will happen if it doesnt stop pleaaaaase help!
Hype Hair
Keep conditioner on the ends and wrap at night to cut down on frizz. If this doesn't help, you may have to trim the ends. Don't wear styles that require tight pulling in the crown because this causes the hair to become weak and will eventually break and thin out.

I had my hair in braids for 5 months when I was in grade seven then when I took out the braids and permed my hair , my hair was very long ( by the way my mom permed it). After my mom permed it ,she took me to the hair dresser and she told her to trim only half a inch of my hair to get it in a certain style but the hair dresser forgot what she said and instead she cut inches off my hair then when my mom came to pick me up she told my mom that my hair had slipt ends which wasn't true. Now I'm having difficult time growing my hair past my shoulder because it kept breaking after the hair dresser cut my hair and right now I am wearing my hair in a weave because I decided to grow my hair natural for a few months then perm it so that i can wear my real hair when i go to Jamaica. I haven't permed my hair for seven months and its really natural and I am dying for my hair to be long again. And plus I did some swimming classes in the summer and I did use a swim cap but the water got in and when I took out my weave my hair was a knot up because of the water . Please tell me what to do and what to buy and plus I live in Toronto and please tell me products that I can ask my mom to buy that will protect my hair from the cold, winter air and make my hair grow and protect it from the clorine when I perm my hair in the summer.
Hype Hair
Anytime you swim in water treated with chlorine, you should immediately wash your hair after.Comb conditioner through it after cleansing to prevent it from matting up. You should invest in a good wide tooth comb. To protect the hair from the dry winter air, choose a good satin lined hat to wear while you're out.

Hey. My hair just started breaking off. I went natural for a year. This year I got a perm and its breaking off really bad in the middle and towards the back. Whats my problem?
Hype Hair
Now that you have gone back to relaxed hair, it must be treated gently and nourished properly. Your hair is more fragile when it is chemically processed so keep it moisturized at all timed to prevent it for getting dry. Deep condition regularly, protect your hair while you sleep so that it doesn't break off and try protective styles like buns and braids to protect your ends and edges.

You an either transition by cutting off the relaxed hair as your new growth comes in or you can do the big chop by cutting off all the relaxed hair at once.

We recommend products that are made specifically to moisturize the hair to keep it from breaking and shedding as you transition from relaxed to natural.

Now I have fine hair, when u straighten it it gets straight but I sweat in the head. What is the best way to keep my hair straight with no relaxer.

You can try wrapping the hair at night to keep your sleek style protected.

what about relaxed hair 9week and she do a black rinse at the same time is that damage everytime you get a perm she give a rinse
Hype Hair
Rinses or semi-permanent hair colors are ok to use on the same day that you relax your hair because they only coat the hair. It's permanent hair coloring that you have to be careful with. We recommend waiting at least two weeks after relaxing your hair to have it colored with a permanent hair color.

Hi Stacey, our hair type tends to be naturally very dry. Therefore, “washing” hair daily will prove as you are currently experiencing far too stressful on your hair, which is being stripped of its natural oils every time you shampoo. To maintain this look why not try wetting hair partially and then applying a leave-in conditioner aimed at controlling frizz, adding moisture or one which maintains curls & bounce. This should help eliminate the brittle texture you spoke of.

Stacey : Posted On: Sep 06, 2011
Hi! I've gotten my hair colored and relaxed and my hair is at a length where it is very versatile. Right now I'm giving my hair a break from the heat and just wearing it wavy or curly (i.e. letting it air dry after washing and leaving it alone.) The problem is the style doesn't last past a day, I'll have to start fresh with wet hair. I love my curls but the almost daily washing is leaving my hair dry and brittle. Is there any way to keep the style without drying out my hair?
Hype Hair
Use an oil moisturizer, an alcohol free gel or a molding paste before styling. These products help with holding your style as well as keep it well moisturized.

Hey Nicki, the general rule when using more than one chemical process on ones hair is an “either/or” option. If you have chosen to relax your hair then you should avoid hair coloring if at all possible. If you must color your hair use a natural colorant like “Naturtint” in your hair shade which contains no Ammonia &, reduce the frequency of both chemical treatments. Aim to relax your hair every 10-12 weeks instead of every 4-6 or 6-8 weeks, using deep conditioning steam treatments throughout to maintain your silky locks for longer & only color hair when absolutely necessary. A trick you might like to try to cover grey hairs (if this is your reason for coloring) between dying treatments is to stroke those hairs lightly with mascara. It’s a fantastic and safe alternative which allows you to stretch treatment times and reduces the amount of chemicals being used in your hair. In terms of tackling the problem of thinning hair you might like to visit us at Life Line Herbal Store dot co dot UK where we have treatments specific to this issue which will help to stop any further hair loss or thinning and begin to re-grow hair in as little as 4 weeks. For more help on caring for your hair you might also like to visit our natural beauty blog. The address is on our site.

I've had issues with my hair thinning at the top for the past 3 or 4 years. Any suggestions on what to do? I wear a perm and color also.
Hype Hair
Choose a no lye relaxer and never color your hair with a permanent color the same day you relaxer your hair. This causes breakage. If you are pulling your hair up tight in that area of the crown or braiding the hair too tight, these high tensions styles should be loosened a bit so a not to cause breakage in that area.

Hey Hype Hair! I am 19years old and I wanted to transition from relaxed to natural hair. What are some hair styles and products that can use to get my hair to grow without me being tempted to throw another relaxer on my hair?
Hype Hair
We always recommend protective styles such as braids, buns and ponytails for great transitional styles to wear when going from relaxed to natural hair. Try products from the Doo Gro collection.

Hi, I am 31 yrs old and have a hyper-active thyriod condition that has contributed tremendously to the texture, dry & brittleness to my hair as well as extreme breakage all over. I get my hair washed and treated twice monthly. Before I had this condition my hair was beautiful, full, silky and shoulder length. Now my hair is short and so uneven, I can barely get it into a pig tail (not pony tail; it hardly grows at all. I would like to know is there something that I can do to get my hair back to being luxurious like before?
Hype Hair
Start with your diet. Healthy eating can help to improve the condition of your hair. Lots of protein from fish and chicken, green leafy vegetable, legumes and fruits help you maintain not only a healthy body, but your hair will be noticably healthier over time.

Chayna : Posted On: Aug 19, 2011
I recently got braids and I read online that if they are braided to tightly white stuff will show at the roots and I will have alot of hair breakage. I have lots of white stuff at the roots! What should I do? Will alot of my hair fall out? Should I take the braids out as soon as possible?
Hype Hair
If your braids have been in longer than 3 months, we recommend taking them out at this point. Try a quality dandruff shampoo like Head & Shoulders to soothe dry, flaky scalp and deep condition the hair as soon as possible.

Hype Hair
Try a net cap weave technique. This will help cover the entire area that is broken off while you still rock an fierce look!

For thick natural hair with "frizzy hair" problems, I recommend using garnier fructis sleek and shine collection. The trick is to keep the conditioner in your hair for approx. 20-30 minutes. Honestly, it works wonders.

My naturall hair is very thick and wavy & i started getting it relaxed a few years ago but the last relaxer got which was almost a year ago DIDNT take and now i have sections in my hair that are a different texture then the rest. Its just a rough frizzy looking section about 2 inches long in the middle of my hair. Ive been considering getting a whole new perm but im not sure if thats the best thing to do. what else can i do to fix this problem?
Hype Hair
Our suggest is to wait until the section grows to the length that you want it to be before cutting out the relaxed ends to start anew.

I have always had a problem with the very back of my hair, my hair is long everywhere else except for the very back nap of my hair. When I get a perm the back is nappy again within a week. My cosomotologist suggested perming it on a weekly basis but won't that be considered over processing. Is there any product out there that will help my hair grow there?
Hype Hair
You are definitely over processing your hair if you are relaxing it every week.A relaxer should only be used every six to eight weeks at the most, and only the new growth hair should be relaxed.

My hair is shoulder length. I have generally thick hair but for some reason, my hair in the middle is breaking off and is getting bald, literally! It inches so bad that I can't help but scratch it like 50 times a day. It inches in the same spot. It began about four to five months ago. Please help! I'm only 21 but my hair age is looking like 61. I don't know what to do.
Hype Hair
Breakage in the same spot is usually attributed to stress in that particular area, whether it be braids or ponytails pulled to tight. If this is the case with you, we recommend changing up the area where you place the braids or ponytails or making them a little looser.

Hello, my name is Chanel and I've worn weaves for several years. My hair has always been pretty healthy. I no longer want to wear weaves but I'm having problems with moisture and curling my hair. It has no life to it and my hair will only give a slight bump on the ends. I have a fresh perm and I've cut my dead ends. My question is how do I get my hair to have healthy strong bouncing curls? Please help thanks!
Hype Hair
Apply a daily hair moisturizer to the hair to keep the hair from getting too dry. When curing the hair, use a holding spray to help the curls stay bouncy.

My hair was damaged from a relaxer about six months ago. I've been wearing braids, deep conditioning with Aphogee, and using Doo Grow. I have to go to a wedding and need a hairstyle (don't want a weave and I don't wear my braids out from under a hat or scarf. With all the braiding, conditioning and Doo Grow products, do you think it's safe to get a short pixie cut with a relaxer and color? The color would be black and I need it to cover the gray hair. Is this too much for my hair? I figure since it will be cut very short and I plan on wearing a pixie for a while, any damaged hair would be cut every three weeks. Please let me know what you think. Thank you in advance.
Hype Hair
A short pixie cut is a great choice depending on the shape of your face. The best way to figure out if this style is great for you is to try on a few different pixie wigs at your local wig store to see if the look suits you.If it looks good, go for it!

I'm trying to get my hair to grow, as of right now my hair is about 1-2 inches beyond my neck.My hair is naturally thick/coarse and also is prone to split ends and breakage could you please offer suggestions as to what products I can use that will both grow and nourish my hair thanks in advance.
Hype Hair
Using the right products plays a big role in hair growth, however the way you handle your hair is also a factor. If you wear braids, be sure they are not installed too tight and use a quality braid spray from African Pride to keep the braids and scalp moisturized. try products infused with Olive Oil or Shea Butter to help nourish the hair naturally.

I've had natural hair almost all my life, as a little girl I had thick braids a little past me shoulders. I've only had two perms and the last one was two years a go. TO get rid of the perm I trimmed off my permed ends and started getting my hair twisted every two weeks. It grew back in length a good 3 inches after about six months however I went back to college and I started to flat iron it in order to manage a simpler style. My hair started to stay straight at the ends when I wash it a fall out a bit. As of now I've stopped straighten my hair for a motnh, I have my hair in twists, and its in different lengths around my head. The front of my hair in reaches my chin in front of y face, my middle hair hands down just to the end of my neck and the hair in the back is about 2 inches off of my neck towards my back. I trimmed some split ends a few weeks ago and I used locking cremem to keep my twisted moirturized but together, my hair is thick curly and managleble with the right products. What I wanted to ask is what can I do to enhance this growing process and speed it up and am I using the right products? here's a list. Thanks! 1. Paul Mitchell Depp Conditioning Mask 2. Pantene Pro-V Relaxed and Natural 3. Pantene Naturals Conditioner 4. Head and Shoulders (not anymore but I used to have bad dandruff) 5. Silk Infusion CHI 6. Biosilk Silk Theraphy 7. Melted Shea Butter (sometimes) 8. Olive Oil ( once in a Blue Moon)
Hype Hair
One thing you can do to help this process along is to maintain a healthy diet. Lots of green leafy vegetables, protein (chicken, fish) legumes (nuts), lots of water and multi vitamins are great for all over health, and this includes the health of your hair.

Whitney S : Posted On: Jun 10, 2011
My hair is shoulder length. I was wanting to do protective hairstyles until it makes the transition past my shoulders. I was thinking of braids that I could wear for long periods of time but, won't have a negative effect on my thin edges. Do you have any suggestions such as micros, etc.? And also what can I do about my thin edges?
Hype Hair
We suggest trying box braids because they are a little thicker than micro braids and shouldn't have too much of a negative affect on your edges as long as they are not too tight.

I have been using Carol's Daughter for the past month and I no longer need to use a relaxer. I was shocked after them first use.I use the new Monoi line. They just released it on May 1st. I use the shampoo, conditioner and mask. They are fabulous! I mean for real! I have always wanted to stop using relaxers but I sweat in my head so bad that pressing my hair is out of the question. My son's teacher told me to use Carol's Daughter and her hair looked like it had a chemical and she said hat she did not use them only that. Now I see why. I swear by this stuff. This is the real hair crack. Lol. But if you want to continue using relaxers they cater to you also. They have a line for all colors and they also have a skin care line. I haven't tried that yet, but,my sister says she loves it. So I recommend Carol's. I won't lie it is a little pricey but well worth it and the products do last because, you don't have to use much. their website is www.carolsdaughter.com and they are sold at macy's, sephora ( I think),and I believe their stores are in NYC not sure because I live in vegas. Bottom Line I am hooked and have not found a better product in my 34 years on earth!

I use relaxes in my hair and for the last 3 months I've noticed that my hair has broken off in 3 spots in my head. My hair is only about an inch or so long in these damaged spots. I don't use a lot of heat in my hair nor a lot of weaves. What can I do to get my hair healthy and start it to growing? Also, would it be okay to wear my hair in a ponytail and use drawstring ponytails while trying to get my hair and scalp healthy or will that be too stressful for my hair. Please help!!!
Hype Hair
The less stress you put on your hair at this point, the better, and this includes draw string ponytails and other high tension hair styles. As for perming the hair, you should only relax the new growth hair. Never perm the entire head when relaxing. This cause the hair to wear down and become thing and in turn, break off.

A lot depends on how you are styling her hair. If you are pulling her hair too tight in ponytails, this can contribute to hair breakage. Be gentle when handling tender heads and use light products on it specifically geared to children. We recommend the Sof n Free brand.

Hello I have naturally curly hair and I have relaxed my hair for years as i have gotten older I stopped relaxing my hair but then I started dying my hair and my sides are very thin I have tried Dr. Miracles which is excellent my hairline has grown tremendously also I have been wearing a wig just to give my hair a break from the dye and heat, I am considering a weave for the Spring and then for the summer I always wear my hair natural do you think it is wise for me to get a weave my hair is thick and it is growing I am getting a sewed in weave that should last me I was told 8 to 10 weeks This is my first weave and I am a little leary because I just turned 40 and I don't want my hair to get thinner I heard that some weaves make your hair grow if they are done right please recommend what should I do
Hype Hair
Try the weave cap or net weaving techniques, which are less harsh on the hair.

I recently grew a texturizer out of my daughter's hair. Her hair is very thick but it has lost the length. What steps should I take to aid in healthy hair growth for her?
Hype Hair
Keep her hair in plats for a while to give it a rest from harsh styling methods. The less you do with her hair, the better.

Keep it clean and deep conditioned on a regular basis. You should also protect it at night while you sleep.

Hello . uhm..I ve been having problems with my hair for most of my life. I'm mixed so growin up my mother never really knew how to take care of my hair . It is very thin and breaks easily. Im scared to cut it in fear of it not growin back. Are their any products you CAN suggest to get me on track to having healthy hair for once. I used to use Magic conditioner (more like grease) all the time but that didnt seem to work. So stopped using it. Now my hair seems to be getting shorter and shorter which i dont really seem to care for ...:) any ideas for rookie??
Hype Hair
The grease you are using may be clogging the pores in your scalp. Use botanical oils instead. Try Aphogee Essentials Oils.

Get the kinky twists done a little thicker this time and see how this fares on your edges.

Ask your stylist to keep the braids a little bigger around the perimeter of the head to help prevent breakage at the edges.

Im in need to know how to wear my own hair every time I put braids or sew in my hair falls out! How can I go all natural and what can I put in it to keep it up.So far I use Oragan Oil to wash but It's hard to maintain.
Hype Hair
Going all natural can be done gradually or by doing the bog chop, which is cutting off all of the permed hair and letting your own natural hair texture grow. It really depends on what process is easier for you. Once you go natural, it is important to deep condition the hair on a regular basis to keep natural hair soft and manageable.

do you really have to cut your ends for your hair to actually grow?
Hype Hair
No. The ends should only be trimmed if they are split and/or damaged.

Kathy : Posted On: Jan 24, 2011
Try Cherie Hair Range - i've used this for a few months and my hair is growing like weeds. Also take vitamins b50complex, Biotin and a multivitamin (advised by doctor firstly) my hair is nearly bra-strap length and it was damaged and breaking.

MsDiane : Posted On: Jan 23, 2011
Hello, First of all if you are having issues with your hair you should address the following: your health, your diet, are you overdoing it with perms, weaves, blow drying and other heat products. As far as your health, go to the doctor and get blood work done. Add a multi-vitamin, drink more water and exercise. Next re-evaluate how you are caring for your hair. Perms and too much heat are bad for the hair. Period. Think back to when you had healthy hair. What were you doing? What are you doing now? What worked for me was giving up the perms. I have no more bald spots and/or thinning areas. I no longer have a dry/itchy scalp. You have to figure out what works for you. I decided I wanted healthy hair. If you decide to continue with the perming, then you have to work on a simple routine, condition more, wrap your hair nightly, and stay away from rough shampoos. I would stay away from the products in the 'black hair care' aisle. They contain lots of cheap ingredients. Good luck!

To all the ladies with young babies and children-- Do not use rubber bands ! Do not pull the hair back under age18 months! (messes up hair line) Do not use kiddie perms ! Do not put beads all over childs head(hard to sleep) Do not use a lot of grease on hair ! Do not use cheap combs/brushes ( this will tear out hair) ---coming from a black woman with hair about 25'' (daughters hair about same length grew 2'' after trimming Each month and getting rid of perm) Adrienne M. Keep up the good work

How do you keep roots straight without flat iron and relaxer chemicals??? Id love to go more natural but i dont even know what my natural hair looks like to be honest. Life of relaxers weaves blow drying and flat iron and i have puerto rican hair...help.
Hype Hair
Keeping the roots of your hair sleek and straight really depends on the textured of your natural hair. If your hair is very coarse, it will be harder to keep them sleek without the use of the methods you have mentioned, however you can try combing a straightening serum through the hair and roots and then wrap the hair at night with a scarf to keep the roots sleek.

I have dark brown hair and i constantly feel like doing something different with my hair so i decided to cut it 2 weeks ago now im thinking about getting highlights but im not exactly sure what color highlights i should get... everyone is saying burgundy or like a blondish brown... what do you think??? HELP!!!!!!!!!!!
Hype Hair
When trying out highlights for the first time, its best to start out with a color that is two to three shades lighter than your natural hair color. Consult with a professional hairstylist that can assist you with this process.

hi!ive been wearing weaves for years. im 19 and my hair is short but not bald. i can wear my hair out and i style it in nice styles that pepole like but from wearing so many tracks(that i usually glue in),my head is sore in some areas and i notice that its sore wear my hair is most short in that area. is there something i can do to get rid of the sore pain?and make the shorter areas grow to the normal leanth of the rest of my hair? i use the olive oli products and used softee hair growth oli in my hair but is that enough to help my hair?
Hype Hair
The glue used for bonding in weaves can be very damaging to the hair and scalp when it is not used properly. When applying wefts to the hair, the glue must never be applied directly to the scalp. The reason why you are having pain is because you may be removing the tracks improperly as well. Never rip or pull the track out forcefully. Always use products specifically formulated to remove the tracks. The tracks should be saturated with the product and allowed to sit until the track is loosened. Only then should the track be removed.Give your hair a break from bonding in weaves until the pain lessens. We suggest Doo Gro hair products to help thicken those thinning areas of the hair.

How can you tell if your hair is over processed. My ends are fizzy, is that because my hair is overprocessed? Also, my hair strands are fine and are easily broken could this be a cause of overprocessed hair?
Hype Hair
All of the problem areas that you have can be attributed to over processing. We recommend taking a break from relaxing your hair for a while and try weekly deep conditioning treatments for a while. Try a deep conditioner by KeraCare. You can also try keeping your hair in braids for a while to give your hair a bit of a break from heat styling tools, which can also cause breakage.

I have had micro braids, sister locks, perms, and natural hair through the years and have found (even with consensus from friends) that Natural hair is best IF you want longer, thicker, healthier hair over time. Most of us have kinky but fine hair and are not taught how to deal with it. Perms over time are meant to break the bondage of your hair (it is how it straightens it) and you will ultimately end up with breakage, especially if you live in a drier climate. I would recommend if you have a lot of breakage to go natural, stop the perms, clip your ends every month (yes every month), add a product like LIV to your hair routine and use it very lightly to straighten your edges your roots. You should work on not putting heat on your hair no more then 2 times a week, I am down to once every week and a half. Use a hot oil treatment every 2 weeks, and do not... I repeat DO NOT pull your hair tight in ponytails, or tight in braids. We as black women (inoculated)believe that smoother is better/neater and as a result we have side breakage that after awhile never grows back. Be gentle with your hair and do not brush or comb excessively. Also grease can and will clog your hair follicles/pores and make it hard for your hair to grow as quickly as it should. Think about it ladies, you see how fast your sons/husband/males hair grows? It is because there is no damage to their follicles, so do less work to your hair and less damage to your scalp as well and your hair is sure to grow. I know we hate to hear it but... perms are bad for your hair and the closer you become who you are the more you will realize that you do not need them! My hair is past my shoulders and very healthy, when wet it shrivels into an afro and when heated very long. I have the kinkiest hair I've seen outside of Africa and I love it because I have accepted it and learned to work with it. Try these tips.

Hi there! I need your help. Are there any products that I can use on my hair to help stop the breakage and to stop it from thinning? I have very fine hair and as a result I don’t perm it often, maybe twice or 3 times a year. This helps to keep it looking fuller and stops it from looking extra thin, but lately it’s grown but looks thinner than usual. Any advice on a deep conditioning treatment, or anything to help it grow and fill in a little more? Thanks for your help! -Be Blessed, CC
Hype Hair
Hi, Thank you for your question. It is always a pleasure to help out our readers. One of the best things you can do for your hair to help it to grow in thicker is to try braids. Keeping the hair braided does wonders for all hair types. Try box braids for a couple of months. You will find that when you take them out, your hair will be fuller, as long as you take care of your hair while they are in braids. Another thing is to make sure the braids are not too tight, but that does more damage than good for your hair.As far as products to use for thicker fuller hair, try DOO GRO Mega Thick Intense Repair. It thickens the hair and has ingredients like Aloe Vera, Protein and Shea Butter in it. Hope these tips help you!

i'm going to tell all my black sisters out there something yall might not want to hear if your hair is short long thin or thick if your trying to grow it out or stop it from breaking off or just tame it this is what you should do 1.get a good shampoos i use garnier fructis triple nutrition it has olive oil avocao oil and shea oil in it and you can see and fill the differance after the first wash.2. get a good conditioner i use garnier fructis triple nutrition fortifying conditioner and it has all the good oils as above.3.it is good to invest in a 3-minute undo conditioner i use garner fructis i rotate between the two and it is also good to use if you miss wash or have dandraft it has apricot seeds in it that gently srub it away. 4.then you should get some oil therapy i use softsheen carson featherlight hot oil what i love about this is it heats up useing your body heat and you can realy fell it i also use there dry scalp leave in treatment this is good if you get alot of braids, sew ins etc it is good to do 1 thru 4 two-three times a week because belive it or not hair can only grow in a clean scalp.after this try to rotate blow drying, air drying, roller drying and wrap set etc it will help with split ends and breakage. then get a good hair dress because grease is not for your hair it's ONLY FOR THE SCALP!!!! i use softseen crson optimum care ant-breakage thrapy moistre replnish cream hairdress i towl dry my hair then put this in befor i heat dry or put rollers in or do any styling. i don't use grease it at all but if your one of those people that still belives every thing grandmother says then i would recomend softee herbal gro herbal oil formula it is light wight and has vitains a,d,and e and helps with breakage and dandraft over time (i use it in my kids hair)but understand less is more cause when you comb it through you will get what i'm talking about.after all this always wrap your hair at night i use satin wrap and night cap it helps keep the moisture in your scalp and keeps your hair from drying out and breaking off just remember your hair will always shed some and good hair takes work and time nothig happens over night but if you do this your hair will grow and stay manageable but most of all it will be healthier give it 6mos to a year and you'll see

for dry hair and to prevent breakage, try using hot oil, or you can put olive oil on dry hair, cover w/a plasic cap for 10 mins. then wash, rinse, and put a good leave-in condition, comb through. I have also found that less blow drying helps stop the breakage. Let your hair air dry as much as possible. You can do a wet wrap or set hair with rollers.

Hi.I have used so many different moisturizers;Olive Oil,Dark and Lovely,Pantene Pro V,Dr Miracle,Breaktru, ect. They all do the same thing and that is to break my hair. I am surprised sometimes at how much hair is still left on my head. My hair is always coming out in excess. I go to the salon to wash and everything just to ensure that it is being properly cared for. Yet it is just still breaking all the time! i really need to know what moisturizer will actually work before all my hair is gone.I really don't know what else to try.

Your hair might benefit from more natural remedies, such as coconut, almond or jojoba oils. You can also try products with Shea Butter in them. You can also talk to your hairstylist about Aphogee's Two-Step Treatment for your hair breakage. This treatment is formulated with magnesium and proteins that fuse into the hair to help reduce breakage.

Are you relaxing your hair too often. You should only relax every 6 to 8 weeks. Perhaps you are relaxing and coloring the hair to close together. Wait at least two weeks after relaxing to color the hair. See a professional for a protein treatment to help stop shedding.

This is for Alexandrea who posted on November 24, 2010. I have the perfect solution for your problem.....you simply need to follow it to the letter. My hair was dry and damaged and now it is so thick and recovering nicely. First you need to invest in the Aphogee Product line. Purchase the Aphogee Dry & Damage Shampoo, the Two Minute Restructurizer Conditioner, The pro-vitamin leave in treatment, and Green Tea & Keratin leave in treatment. Now Sally's Beauty Supply has all of these products and yes they are just a little pricey, but, they work. Follow the directions on the bottle, and in two months I can promise you will see an amazing difference. Also, do not use products with mineral oil--Keep the hair Moisturize with the Aphogee sheen spray. These are the only products you will need for a long time. Let me know how this works for you.

Try using a good deep conditioner on your daughter hair. Only use a wide tooth comb to comb the condition through and to prevent matting and tangling.
