She is a highly respected solo gospel artist in her own right, and she’s spreading her wings with the new docuseries We’re The Campbells, a show that also stars her husband, Warryn Campbell. We caught up with Erica to learn more about her exciting new ventures, and get the scoop on her burgeoning hair collection Erica By Erica Campbell, as well as her top hair care tips.

Hype Hair: Congratulations on your new show. Can you tell us a little bit about We’re the Campbells came to fruition?
Erica Campbell: Well, we have always had a great relationship with TV One executives. Warryn said he really felt like we were supposed to be in the TV space even after Mary Mary came to an end, and I agreed. So, after a few emails and phone calls, Hubby secured the deal to do We’re the Campbells with TV One. It’s a great partnership!

HH: How was the experience working on a docuseries with your husband this time around?
EC: Really fun and funny. Marriage is crazy and awesome at the same time, because you’re two different people who have to agree a lot! We love and respect each other, so WE just make it work—raising kids, being in ministry and entertainment with cameras in our faces!

HH: What do you hope that viewers will take away from the new series?
EC: I hope that viewers will take away that healthy families exist and that we’re not the exception—we’re a reflection of many households in the world! I hope they see us loving each other and raising kids in 2018 while trying to stay in love. It ain’t easy, but it’s very possible when that’s what you both want! We also want them to see a faith-filled yet normal family.

HH: You also host your own radio show, Get Up! Mornings With Erica Campbell. What sparked your interest in doing radio?
EC: With having completed sooo many interviews. I’ve enjoyed trying to condense thoughts into a short, powerful segment, which is what you have to do in between the music when you’re doing radio! It’s super-fun and different every day. I also get to help my industry, which I love. Gospel music is the best—but to keep it 100, I wouldn’t be here had Ms. Kathy Hughes not called my phone personally to ask me if I would do it. I wasn’t pursuing this. It kind of fell into my lap, and because I love my genre, I said yes! I love talking to interesting people!

HH: What’s a typical day like for you, doing the show?
When I broadcast from L.A., my day starts at 2:30 a.m. because I’m live from 3–7 a.m. PST. My day should really start at 2 a.m., but the way my sleep is set up… (laughs) . When I’m in my Dallas Sunshine Studio, it’s more like 4 a.m.—and I’m live from 5–9 a.m. CST.
