Hype Hair: How has being on The Real Housewives of Potomac helped you grow your brand?
Gizelle Bryant: I believe that the Real Housewives franchise really gives you the platform to sprout your wings and fly. Bravo has been so supportive of EveryHue Beauty and my book, which is on the way. I believe that if you don’t use the platform to build your own brand, then you are just wasting your time.
HH: How has being a cast member changed your life?
GB: The show has changed my life in ways that I wasn’t expecting. I’m the cool mom at my kids’ school, and everywhere I go, people want to take pictures—even at the gas station. However, it has definitely given me the space to talk about things that are import- ant to me, and for that I am grateful.
HH: Did you have any apprehension at first about doing reality TV?
GB: Absolutely—the apprehension was related to my children. I didn’t want to bring any- thing into their lives that would be negative or put them into a situation that they could not handle. They were a huge part of my decision-making process. If they didn’t want me to do it, then it would have been a no.
HH: What do you enjoy most about it now?
GB: I know it doesn’t always seem like it, but I enjoy spending time with the ladies. For the most part, we do have fun when we are together. The majority of our production crew has been with us since the beginning, so they feel like family.
HH: How do you keep your natural hair healthy and radiant?
GB: I swear by a leave-in conditioner. I find that it makes my hair soft and shiny. Mielle [Organics] has a great one that I have been using lately.
HH: What do you love most about your hair?
GB: I love that my hair is naturally thick. It makes me feel powerful to run my hands through my thick natural hair.
HH: What hair products do you most rely on for hair care and styling?
GB: Hill Harper launched a line called JUA. I love the shampoo and conditioner—it has great healthy ingredients. And Jane Carter has a styling cream that I use almost every day for my edges.
HH: What are some of your favorite day-to-day hairstyles?
GB: I love a neat ponytail. I can wear it high or part [my hair] down the middle and wear it low. I think it’s a classic look that fits my face.
HH: What looks do you love most for a glamorous evening out?
GB: For the glamorous look, I love bone-straight hair. It’s classy and sophisticated, and I don’t have to worry about it. I don’t have to worry if a curl is out of place. The straight look just stays perfect.
HH: Who are some of your favorite hair inspirations?
GB: I love all the different things that Jennifer Lopez does to her hair. She can pull off virtually any hairstyle. I’m a little more conservative, but looking at Jennifer inspires me to step outside my comfort zone.
HH: What’s next on the agenda for you?
GB: Still working to expand EveryHue Beauty into more retail outlets, not just in this country, but internationally. I’m looking forward to finishing my book and spending some much needed vacation time with my kids.
