Hair Tools 101: What Brush Type You Should Be Using On Your Hair

Diane Boar Brush

Boar Bristle

Boar bristle brushes are a hair staple. Made from the hair of a wild boar, this is considered the holy grail of hair finishing. You can use this brush (on already detangled hair) to smooth and wave down your edges and roots and assist with overall styling. The natural bristles not only help spread your hair’s natural sebum throughout your hair, it also prevents product buildup. (That’s why it seems you always need to clean your brush!).

Be warned, however, that this brush is not for detangling. So make sure you’ve properly finger combed and brushed with a detangler or paddle beforehand otherwise you may end up with a knotted mess.
