We got a healthy dose of glam at the 90th Annual Academy Awards this past weekend. From chic updos and bone straight looks, Black Hollywood showed up and showed out. Tops on our list was Oscar nominee Octavia Spencer who pushed through with a gorgeous bob of soft waves for her red carpet moment.

The Shape Of Water actress went all the way glam with the fresh new look, pairing it with a glowing beauty beat and elegant forest green gown by Brandon Maxwell. Of course, we had to get deets on her red carpet curls and her go-stylist of five years, David Stanwell did not disappoint.

David, who has been working Octavia’s ‘do for the past five years, said he drew inspiration from her flowing gown.

“Octavia had sent me the sketch of her dress earlier this week, which helped spark my inspiration for [the] look. Instantly, I knew I wanted to do a side part so that one side was off the shoulder to complement her dress and jewelry.”

To get the look, he mixed two Dove faves: Style+Care Smooth & Shine Heat Protection Spray with Absolute Curls Supreme Crème Serum to protect and moisturize her hair. He then set the face-framing shape of her look with a large round brush as he blow dried. Noting the shorter cut, he said, “I made a deep side part to add more definition to the look.”

For her gorgeous curls, David parted and curled small sections of her hair with a one-inch curling iron. To get her glam waves, he curled and twisted the hair toward her face. While he let the curls cool set, he sprayed Dove Style+Care Compressed Micro Mist Flexible Hold Hairspray for extra hold. He then ran his hands throughout the hair to break up the curls and add volume.

“After shaping the hair and dressing it around her face,” said Dave, “I tucked the curls on the right side of her face behind her ear to give it a romantic feel and show off her jewelry.”

He finished off the look with another quick shot of the hair spray. We love!
