Black Panther may not officially hit theaters until Friday, but it’s already breaking records and taking Hollywood by storm! With mainstream flocking all over it, it’s exciting to see the cast shine on the now Black-owned ESSENCE’s double cover issue.
Angela Davis, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira and Letitia Wright pose it for one cover while Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Forrest Whitaker and Daniel Kaluuya pose it up for the other. Inside, the kings and queens of Wakanda give us an inside glimpse into their Marvel universe while talking about the movement behind the movie and the idea of an African nation untouched by the outside world.
“The idea of creating a scenario where you’re seeing very powerful, empowered Africans is really thrilling to me, something my heart, soul, and spirit yearned to see,” Danai, who plays Okoye, told ESSENCE for the story.
You can read the full conversation when the issue hits newsstands on February 23.
