Celeb stylist Tippi Shorter has been a beauty boss for more than 20 years styling the manes of such faves as Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys and Rihanna. She’s made history as the first African American spokesperson for Pantene and as Aveda’s first ever global artistic director for textured hair.
But her talent doesn’t stop there. The hair expert has recently been named president and ambassador of hair extensions brand Her Imports. In her new role, she has teamed with the brand to expand their line with a custom wig collection, along with their selection of hair care products and tools.
“As a hairstylist over the last 20 years, I have purchased hair everywhere. I have used all kinds of hair and have been sent all kinds of hair,” said Tippi, explaining that she hasn’t always had the best results. “I can stand behind this hair’s quality. Quality is first and foremost and has been consistent. And I really like that [the company is] forward thinking about distributing and selling the hair. Not only can you buy it online, but there are consultation boutiques in 36 cities across the US. You come in, it’s a one-on-one experience. You can touch, see and feel and select the pieces you want to take with you.”
The hair guru debuted the custom wig and frontal collection earlier this month at an exclusive launch party in NYC, showcasing a variety of textures from bone straight to kinky curly. In addition, she introduced several innovative offerings from the brand’s hair care line OSI Works, including a groundbreaking vibrating flat iron ($75) and a Life-Proof Lash Glue ($15) that last ups three to five days.
At 475 degrees, the OSI flat iron is one of the hottest on the market and feels like an electric toothbrush. “It’s designed with thick, coarse hair in mind,” said Tippi. “If you have waves, kinks, crimps, curls and coils, the vibrations of the flat iron actually covers a larger surface so you can take bigger sections of hair. The vibration and the heat allows sections in the center to still get touched and smoothed.”
Tippi will also be working to help round out the company’s entire hair and product line.
“There are tools and things out there (or not out there, yet) that would make everyone’s styling process so much simpler. So, we are looking to create and introduce those products to the world. A huge passion of mine is education, so we are also working now on creating an online platform that not only teaches the correct way for application of hair extensions but also education for hairstyling like cutting, coloring and styling.”
We can’t wait to see what she reveals next!
