Taraji P. Henson has always been about that bob life, but the Hidden Figures actress has been taking the look to new lengths since debuting a choppy ‘do with shaved sides last month. The diva has been showing off the edgy undercut in a series of chic ‘dos and her sleek, center-parted look at Sunday’s Grammy Awards was no exception.

Her go-to hairstylist Tym Wallace said the look was all about being chic and natural. “Her lavender dress is playful and a bit futuristic, so I wanted to acknowledge that with a fresh undercut and used bobby pins to create something unique, but still achievable for women at home,” he said.

To create the look, Tym first prepped Taraji’s hair using Dove’s new DermaCare line. Once cleansed, he distributed a dime-sized amount of Dove Absolute Curls Supreme Crème Serum ($6) throughout her hair from root to tip and blow dried her natural hair with a paddle brush. He then flat-ironed to smooth out her and edged up her undercut. He then added a soft center part, , following up with another application of Dove’s serum to slick down hair and add shine.

Once smoothed down, he used “something in every woman’s haircare arsenal” to rock one of the season’s must-try trends: exposed bobby pins. “I added an excessive amount black bobby pins to secure her hair on either side,” said Tym. “I stacked them and crossed them over one another to form a unique and playful design,” said Tym.

He finished off the look with Dove’s Style + Care Flexible Hold Hairspray ($4) to tame flyaways.
