As most aspiring models of color know, getting booked by an agency is nothing short of a challenge. There are typically only a handful of Black women in a roster of 100. But, instead of getting mad, she got pretty. The Liberian-born, Los Angeles-raised beauty teamed with photographer Raffael Dickreuter to recreate an epic series of famous fashion campaigns that originally starred White models because Black girl magic — and she killed it.
Her ‘Black Mirror’ series is nothing short of epic, with her nailing not only every last detail, but also serving serious face as she channels the likes of Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Linda Evangelista.
“I felt it was time to do something positive and inspiring, said Deddeh. “For too long the negativity seemed to take over in the public eye,” said Deddeh. She hopes that the series will inspire “[m]ore equal visibility of all races.”
The series shows just how powerful the voice of one can be. We hope the issue is seen as more than a viral shoot, but something to be continually addressed throughout the beauty industry. At the very least, Deddeh should have no problems booking work anytime soon
