Gabrielle Union is absolutely flawless in her latest spread for Harper’s Bazaar. Lensed by James Ryang, the Being Mary Jane star channels her inner supermodel skills, posing it up in seiries of all-white fashions styled by Chrissy Ford and Carrie Goldberg.
For her hair, we see her rock sleek and beachy waves styled by celeb hairstylist Takisha Sturdivant-Drew and a gorgeous clean face beat with a deep contour.
Gabrielle also reminds us that she is as candid and outspoken as she is talented and beautiful. Inside the feature, she opens up about her views on race in Hollywood, rape and how she overcame white beauty ideals to embrace her blackness.
When I was your age, I didn’t love my skin color, I didn’t love my lips. I didn’t love my nose, I didn’t love my hair. I didn’t love anything. I didn’t love my body. Because no one was choosing me—my self-esteem was determined by somebody choosing me.”I used to curl my lips,” pressing her lips together to demonstrate. “And I see pictures and I look insane, but it was me trying to minimize my blackness.” Her young Gabby girl self giggles at the absurdity of it in retrospect. “It all boiled down to: I need some fool to choose me and then I can be okay with being brown.”
