Zendaya is giving us elegant glam for the cover of The Hollywood Reporter’s annual Next Gen 2016 issue. She shares the cover with actor Tom Holland in exclusive portraits for the glossy as they talk about their upcoming 2017 film Spider-Man: Homecoming and reaching a new generation of moviegoers.
While many are still trying to figuring out whether Zendaya will be the first actress of color to play Peter Parker’s love interest, Mary Jane Watson, she’s keeping quiet. “It’s just funny to watch the guessing game,” she said in the interview.
She made it clear, though, that she’s not here for the controversy:
“People are going to react over anything…But of course there’s going to be outrage over that because for some reason some people just aren’t ready. I’m like, ‘I don’t know what America you live in, but from what I see when I walk outside my streets of New York right now, I see lots of diversity and I see the real world and it’s beautiful, and that’s what should be reflected and that’s what is reflected so you’re just going to have to get over it.'”
