Hype Chat: Keri Hilson Talks Braids & Must-Have Beauty Products

Keri Hilson

HH: There are so many different ways to style braids these days. Can you share one of your favorite looks?
I describe my favorite look as the “regal pull-back.” You’ve seen it on many red carpets over the past few years, but I also rock it about every day. I roll back the sides by my ear and gather them at the back. I feel really regal. It feels like I’m wearing a crown.

HH: What do you use to keep your braided styles fresh and healthy looking?
KH: I use Pre-Con Black Gel for my edges. Nothing I’ve tried works as good as old faithful and a toothbrush! I shampoo my hair weekly and spray It’s A 10 Leave-In Conditioner on my braids. Then I follow with Ann Carol Oil Spray by Dr. Kari Williams. I pretty much use that one because I love the smell. Peppermint Chamomile is my favorite scent but she makes great ones so I alternate. When my hair is clean, but I want a refresher throughout the week, I’ll use Oscar Blandi Invisible Dry Shampoo in between my weekly shampoos.

HH: From your Snapchat to your Instagram photos, we’re always in awe of how amazing and clear your skin looks. What’s your secret and what skin care products do you use?
KH: My skin care is so simple. Thankfully, I don’t have to use expensive products because my skin behaves so well, generally. I’ve been using Clean & Clear Daily Pore Cleanser for maybe 15 or more years and I love Olay Classic Daily Renewal Cream as my moisturizer.

HH: What about your makeup choices? Do you prefer the more glamorous looks or do you like to keep it on the minimal side for day-to day beauty?
KH: As far as makeup, I wear minimal daily. I’ll do a light translucent powder in a heartbeat to mute the oil and shine. I like to keep my lips natural in everyday life. You’ll see that in most of my selfies. I’m rarely wearing anything but natural cocoa butter on them if I need it that day. But, when I want to ramp things up a bit, my favorite bronzer and mascara are both by Laura Mercier and my favorite lash has been Ardell 120 Wispy for so long!
