Haircare line Sundial sent the beauty world abuzz when it announced its Madam C.J. Walker-inspired hairline earlier this year. After reviving a major part of Black hair history, the brand is now inspiring more than hair greatness with its new campaign “I Can Because She Did”. Its latest effort includes an #ICanSheDid meme generator and social media platform dedicated to celebrating women who have proven that “the impossible” is indeed possible.”
“Madam C.J. Walker has been widely celebrated as a source of pride and inspiration in Black History for almost a century, but the truth is that she is an American icon and an inspiration for every woman,” said Richelieu Dennis, founder and CEO of Sundial Brands. “Like so many women aspiring and working to create the life they desire, Madam Walker lived with a vision that was beyond her time – a vision for the way that things could be, not the way they were. She accomplished what no woman had done before, and with #ICanSheDid, we are inspiring women today to do the same.”
The brand has also partnered with beauty influencers, including style expert Tai Beauchamp and Heart & Soul EIC Anita Kopacz, the platform’s goal is to produce 20 short films showcasing women who embody the entrepreneurial and empowering spirit of Madam Walker’s audacity, ingenuity, empowerment, spirit of service and confidence to blaze her own trail.
With #BlackGirlMagic reigning as more than just a hashtag, we’re loving that more and more brands are celebrating the beauty and power of women of color.
