Hype Hair: Do you have any advice for our readers on how to balance marriage, family and career?
Sasha Gates: Try not to overthink things, you can do it. Being a mother and wife always comes first, that is my priority, but once I was able to get on a routine I found time to weave in my music and other things I love. It was important to me to also not lose myself; music is really my creative outlet and I cherish that time. Women were made to multitask! Sometimes you have to take it slow, but don’t ever give up on what you love. That would be my advice, make sure you still find time for yourself, even if it is 20 minutes or an hour a day, find that time.
HH: What are your favorite cosmetic products?
SG: There are so many! I am definitely a beauty product junkie, but right now I would say my top three are Kat Von D Foundation, La Mer Eye Cream and Lipikar Baume – La Roche lotion.
HH: What beauty secrets can you share with our readers?
SG: Emu oil was great for restoring my hairline after my edges thinned out from having my babies.
HH: What hair products do you like to use that our readers might be able to find and try?
SG: Rusk Hairspray, it’s weightless and smells great and Aveda Anti-Humectant Pomade.
HH: How do you care for your hair?
SG: 1 I always sleep with a silk pillowcase. I always use low heat when I press my hair and I do scalp treatments and deep conditioner once a week, Pureology Hydrate is my favorite.
HH: and what are your favorite hairstyles?
SG: I love wearing my natural curly hair. I feel sexy and effortless with it.
HH: Is your hair natural or relaxed?
SG: Natural, I usually like to keep my curls, I don’t want to ruin them so I try not to put too much heat on my hair. When I do style my hair, I will use extensions so it’s less damage on my own hair.
HH: How do you feel about wigs and extensions?
SG: I love feeling beautiful and helping other women feel good about themselves and sometimes a fierce wig or extensions can bring out that extra boost of confidence! I started my own hair line called Dolling Extensions and from it sprouted the Dolling Foundation, which provides high quality wigs to women suffering hair loss from catastrophic illness. We hope to inspire women and enhance their natural beauty that was compromised by tragedy. If I can help put a smile on a woman’s face during a dark time, then my mission is complete. So yes, I love wigs and extensions!
