Actress Tessa Thompson is serving summer-perfection as both muse and model for Tome’s first-ever large-scale capsule collection. The Creed and Dear White People is the epitome of cool girl, draped in flowing pieces offering a sultry combination of wraps, bows and patterns inspired by Afro-Cuban artist Belkis Ayon,
Tome’s designers, Ryan Lobo and Ramon Martin, likened the thematically dark undertones of Ayon’s work to Thompson’s aesthetic, who they view as “the coolest, smartest, political, sophisticated, and fabulous lady”.
“[In Ayon’s paintings] there is a pair of eyes staring at the viewer of all times,” Lobo told Vogue. “We are really interested in art that focuses on the feminine gaze, the eyes of a woman looking out into the world, and being who she is. I think that is what really struck us about Belkis’ work and that is how I feel about Tessa and her eyes.”
