HH: Is your hair relaxed or natural?
RH: It’s natural. The hardest part about natural hair is the working out, but I use that Nicole Ari Parker Save Your ’Do Gym Wrap when I work out and it really does work. Then I use my little satin bonnet and my little satin pillowcase because the bonnet falls off, and then I put my little satin scarf on in case that falls off. [Laughs]
HH: What are some of your favorite hairstyles to wear for day to day and on the red carpet?
RH: I’ll take a lot of olive oil when I’m not working and put my hair in buns a lot. It works for working out, and then I just tie a scarf around it. I decide that the red carpet look is going to be, ironically, very opposite of my character. I wore very long hair in Think Like A Man, so I went with a short bob for press. In Barbershop, I have the colored hair and Angie is more dimensional, so I would go for a very classic look. So it depends. I like to show a different version of myself on the red carpet than I’ve done in the movie that I’m promoting.
HH: Who are some of your personal hair inspirations?
RH: I love how Ri Ri changes up the hair, and I love Beyoncé’s. I like short hair, too. I like how Issa Rae wears her hair natural. I just like a lot of different looks.
HH: Are there any other projects you’re working on that we should be on the lookout for?
RH: I’m doing Crushed for Hulu at the end of March or April. Also, I will say that I will be coming out with a new hair line. It’s going to be for people to get good hair at affordable prices. I will actually be wearing the hair, so nobody has to wonder, ‘Does she wear the hair?’ It will be an extension line. Really basic and simple, and I think people will like it.
