The ladies of Eclipsed are simply epic on the cover of UPTOWN magazine’s March 2016 issue. These six fabulous ladies: Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o, The Walking Dead‘s Danai Gurira, Pascale Armand, Akosua Busia, Zainab Jah and Saycon Sengbloh are not only serving slayage, but also making history as Broadway’s first all-black, all-female production.
They are also serving #goals with their textured hairdos – from teenie weenie afros and twisted buns to curly bobs and kinky, coily updos. And, let’s not forget their beat faces with nude, red and even violet lips!
Inside, the ladies — all of African descent — talk about the power of using women’s voices to tell the story of a war-torn Liberia and their own personal connections to the play written by Gurira..
“I’m very proud to be part of a milestone of a production that is all female: directed, written and performed by,” said Nyong’o. “The voices are coming out and saying that an inclusion needs to occur at the point of which stories are being told and what stories get the support to reach the audience. And so it’s about diversifying that. And for me, I’m very proud to be a part of a production like none other that has been on Broadway and is also changing the narrative of what is possible on Broadway.”
